This is the perfect play cash register to get. It has everything I was looking for: It's sturdy and high quality. It doesn't need batteries. (The solar power works well even in low light.) It is a perfect WORKING calculator. The buttons make a tiny little beep when you push them. (just enough sound to be satisfying but not annoying for the adults!) It comes with a set of play money (coins and bills) that are perfect. The drawer is the right size for actual-sized bills as well. And best of all when you hit the "open" button the drawer slides out with a very satisfying "ChaChing!" I have a 2 and a half year old who loves imaginative play and I wanted to find a cash register to play 'grocery store'. I can already tell that this register is going to be some of the best money I've ever spent in terms of $/Hours of playtime. I rarely write reviews but this cash register was so perfect for so little money that it inspired me to want to support this company.

I purchased one of these over 23 years ago for our daughter. The neighborhood kids loved playing store with her. It is a great make believe and educational toy...has a functional calculator, play money, and a pretend credit card. So I purchased one for our grand daughter who is now 4, the same age her mom was when we bought hers.

Love this cash registry. And it works well with the fake cash I got from Target.The only complain is that there are only tree compartments for the cash. And cash come with $1, $5, $10, $20, and $100. And there is no place to store the card. By the way, the card slot work with any cards you have.The registry itself is pretty sturdy. The reason I got this one is we had played with the same one in some children's museum. They are still working fine after days and days of play.My little one is only 4. And she has no problem figure out how to play with it. And she actually learned numbers from playing with it. She couldn't read or write number before getting it. As soon as she got it, she hit the buttons to put in the number and ask for a pencil so she can write down the numbers on the papers that came with it. Now she can read the write all the number.Totally love this cash registry. I am pretty sure, there are few more years of play with it still.Now whenever we have little visitors, this is one of the most popular toy to be played with.

UPDATE 1/7/2014:After returning the first one I purchased because of shipping damage it received due to poor or total lack of proper packaging, I received a replacement one packaged the exact same way (original thin cardstock retail box) only this time it had a gaping hole in the box. Product was dirty and dusty from shipping and had obvious wear marks from poor handling. I contacted amazon customer service again and they managed to 1 day ship a replacement which arrived in time for Christmas (thanks Amazon!). This time it was shipped inside a proper box and everything was as expected.A couple of additional remarks:- this register will fit actual dollar bills however note that it only has three sections and so you will need to stack at least one denomination (i.e. $1, $5, $10, & $20 play bills are included).- I increased my review stars from 2 to 4 after finally receiving an undamaged product.Original Review:We have seen this item at a couple of B&M stores and felt it would be a great gift for our 5 year old. Simple and without too many bells and whistles to break or get in the way.Amazon had a great deal on it and so we purchased it online. Item arrived promptly however no care at all was given to the packaging. The item came in the original retail box like you would find on a store shelf with a UPS label slapped to the side. The retail box is thin card stock and not corrugated cardboard meant to withstand reasonable shipping and handling. Box arrived fairly disheveled with dented corners and a partially open top barely held in place by a single piece of scotch tape. Not that I expected the original retail packaging to have any, but of course there was no bubble wrap, Styrofoam, or any padding to speak of that would absorb the rough handling it obviously recieved. The toy register inside was scratched, dented, had stress mark discoloration (i.e. light white marks that appear in colored plastic when forced to bend where not intended to), it was dusty and dirty, and one of the 4 bottom foam feet was halfway peeled off. As the item was damaged and clearly beyond being gift-able, I contacted Amazon for a replacement through their automated return/exchange process which was at least simple and easy enough not to add insult to injury. Hoping to avoid a repeat scenario I also contacted them through their customer service chat and explained the situation. The below is Amazon's response and while no guarantees were given I do hope the replacement item arrives better packaged and in much better shape.Amazon(CSA): At this time, we can't accommodate special packaging requests.Amazon(CSA): However, rest assured that most Amazon.com orders are shipped in corrugated containers with air-filled packing pillows as needed for protection.We've also developed a software program that determines the "right-sized" packaging for any given item, based on that item's dimensions and weight.Amazon(CSA): Rest assured that I've reported this matter to the appropriate department so this will be investigated and your suggestion will be given utmost consideration.Will update this review after receiving the replacement item.Ignoring the aesthetics of a poorly shipped product. The register did appear to be working electronically and came with working batteries already installed. The drawer "dinged" open after hitting the open key, and the calculator appeared to function as well. The bills and coins were packaged in separate clear baggies and were located inside the register drawer. The color of the bills is an odd and unrealistic green so if this bugs you, you may want to invest in a purchasing a separate set. Additionally the qty of bills and coins did seem a bit sparse and may not completely fill up the tray so again, you may want to invest in a separate set. The plastic card toy and instruction manual were in another clear baggy that was loose in the box.I knew this prior to selecting this item, but one point of interest that someone looking to purchase this without hands on experience at a B&M store, is that this toy register is basically just a glorified simple calculator with a draw that opens when you hit the open key. If you are expecting something that will add up items then automatically calculate change based on cash tendered and spring the register drawer at the same time, then this is not how this toy functions. Obviously since it has a calculator adding up items and calculating changes can be managed, but it is not how a real register would function so don't expect that.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my nephew who just started preschool and wanted a learning toy. It was a great price compared to most of the cheap ones you find at the local retail stores. It arrived on time packaged very well. It is very durable so with a 5 year old it can take a few beatings. It comes with sturdy set of fake money and even a plastic credit card. It's lightweight so it can be carried around easily. Overall it was a great buy my nephew absolutely loved it and is learning to make change. I would definitely recommend this product!

We LOVE this. We bought this for our 4 year old for Christmas and it was a favorite gift for him as well as our 7 year old who LOVES playing with her little brothers new toy! This is such a quality product. The money that comes with it is adorable and very life like as far as size goes. The only “issue” that’s really not a big deal at all, is that the drawer flys open really fast and launches some of the coins out of it. Other than that, this is a great toy that is worth every penny!!
