The X-Band design of the Premier has a low profile and a high level of protection and comfort. The adjustable lightweight cross-strap construction in addition to the interchangeable occipital padding makes the Premier the most unique and advanced headgear in the game. The inner lining of the Premier is constructed with moisture management fabric to accelerate moisture evaporation, allowing the player to keep his head in the game. It is based upon feedback from professional players and use under real game conditions, and therefore, is ideal for those athletes who play full out at the highest levels of the game.

Mandatory Gear for our Keepers
We now have three of these units for our team and make them mandatory gear for all of our keepers. At a recent sports injury prevention clinic for youth coaches, the head ortho surgeon for the local military academy highly recommended them and said they have started asking their keepers to wear them. I "heard" his wisdom, but didn't act on it. Sure enough ... three weeks later, one of our girls left the field on a backboard in the back of an ambulance after receiving a point-blank shot directly to her forehead while attempting save a shot. Talk about a crappy feeling as a Coach!!! The whole time all I kept thinking about was "what if she was wearing something? I should have acted sooner!" etc., etc., etc.Fortunately, she's going to be okay, but the neuro Doc still took her out of team activities for at least 8 weeks (and justifiably so after the hit she took). So now, we've made these mandatory for both practices and matches for our keepers. Another one of whom just hit her head on the post last week at practice. Fortunately she was wearing the guard, so she "shook it off" and got right back to work. They can be awkward to learn to fit properly the first few times. If the player has a pony tail, the "port" makes that easier, but it's still tricky to get arranged. If you get black (color), they aren't "that noticeable" (which is all the players seem to care about). They seem to take some getting used to for the player, but after a few sessions, the keepers eventually stop complaining :-) Figuring out how to keep the hair out of their face may require multiple hairbands before putting the guard on, but they eventually get the hang of that too.So it's not a perfect design from a usability / adjustability standpoint. But imagining that the designers are trying to walk the line between "looking cool" and yet still actually providing some genuine protection to the key concussion points-of-impact, they seem to have done an admirable job.I would particularly recommend them for youth players transitioning from non-physical play at the beginning levels to first time aggressive play starting around U12'ish. They almost seem to be colliding like magnets (trying to mimic what they see on TV), but yet they haven't learned how to brace or protect yet. Combine that with the fact that this age group is more at risk for long term damage from concussions, since they are still developing.I even tried one of them during heading practice, and it does actually make headers a LOT less uncomfortable and I didn't notice any particular loss of speed / distance, or ability to aim where I wanted. So now I'm going to see if I might actually be able to try to convince some of the field players to wear them too?? We'll see how that goes ....

dorky but great protection
I am a defender and I do lots of heading during a match, and after the match, I always get a real bad headache from heading (or maybe a little from possible dehydration). So I was wanting to get this product for awhile but because of how it looks i was hesitant. Anyways, I bought it and figured I got nothing to lose from just trying it out and..if I don't like it I wouldn't wear it or just return it. Since I got the item and tried it during my last game, and oh boy, I wish I had this sooner. It doesn't look that bad/dorky as I expected and it really provides great protection for your head (forehead, side & back). i was heading the ball with confidence (the ball still travels far or maybe further) and my headache was very minor, it really didn't bother me this time. Overall, a great product and i recommend it to anyone who wants to reduce the impact of heading the ball or prevent other serious head injuries.Cons:-hot-may need adjusting if not put on correctly the first time-the ref may ask about it-still some teammates or opponents may laugh at you..lol.

Just do it!
My son is 9 and plays 3 sports. The coach of his flag football team recommended head protection for this season. We play indoors and the kids are banging against the walls, the floor, and each other. Some of the other kids went with the full head cap, but my son does not like his head covered so we tried this. He wears it for flag football and soccer (doesn't quite work for baseball). He plays goalie in soccer and a tight end in football. The negatives are: his head does sweat and I can't throw it in the wash. However, the protection it provides to his head outweigh these negatives. I am a teacher and a parent around sports a lot, I don't know why more parents don't take these simple precautions to protect their kids.

Highly recommended - but measure carefully and look at pics.
Excellent headgear for the price. Got the medium size because my son's measurements were right on the edge. Fits great, but the ear cutout is a bit too far forward given how it adjusts so the back edge hits the back of his ear. That would drive me bonkers, but he doesn't mind. Figure the L size would fix that issues and totally get trying to make a universal design to fit all heads and ear placements is tough. But after a scary concussion (non soccer related - go figure), he's worn this as a keeper ever since. He prefers the band type style to the full skull cap and while it may offer a little less protection - it's a tradeoff to ensure he wears it.

Great piece of mind and protection for young athlete
My 10 year old son has had two mild concussions playing sports. We found this headgear and based on the reviews and price, we decided to give it a try. He plays on a travel soccer team that can get pretty physical. This headgear gave him and his parents greater piece of mind during games. He was not bothered by it and it was super light weight. He has dark hair so it blended well with his head and didn't look out of place either. Now on to basketball where he will definitely need it again!

My girls have been wearing this product for years
My girls have been wearing this product for yearsBoth girls have been playing soccer since they were 4 years old .My youngest has also played Basketball for 7 years . I feel that wearing a guard has kept my Daughters from having a concussion. My eldest daughter is now entering her 3rd year of College as a goalkeeper, with no concussions . While most people will have their young athletic player wear one AFTER a concussion I felt it was important not to injure their young brains at all.

My 9yo son suffered his second concussion a few months back and it was recommended we get a head gear such as this to help minimize the chances of another concussion. He loves the fit, comfort, and style of it which helps tons with his confidence of getting back on the field. The fact it's not bulky helps him not be self conscious about wearing it either.

Will not protect you from a concussion
I got two concussions while wearing it. One was an elbow to the head and the other was head-to-head. Both times the other person made contact with the helmet. I no longer play soccer.

My son suffered a serious concussion during a soccer game this winter. He bounced his head off the turf and spent a week in the hospital. As he is recovering and beginning to get back on the field he has been wearing this helmet. It is light weight and comfortable. It has not hindered his play what so ever. It is small enough that it does not make him feel self-conscious on the field. After our experience with his concussion and subsequent seizures, I would recommend this product to all youth soccer players. It is not worth the risk to play without protection!!
