Darlac Perennial Shears – One Handed Gardening Shears for Grass, Shaping Topiary, Deadheading and Perennials – Razor Sharp Carbon Steel Blades for Precise Cutting

Used daily for professional gardening work. Very useful well made shears, similar in design to at least a couple of far more expensive brands (one of which is almost identical but painted green). ADVICE ABOUT SPRING REPLACEMENT: Search for seceteur springs on a major auction site and you will easily find replacements at little expense. The size you want is 70mm x 5mm. They cut well out of the box but a bit of sharpening was required to deburr the cutting edge to get the best out of them. I like the 'bare bones' functionality of their simple design, very little to go wrong, no plasic 'made to fail' parts, no rubbery 'grippy' handles to give you blisters and turn to mush in a few years. The lock is firm and adequate, allowing them to be hung from a belt loop/carabina. My only gripes: there is no damped strike plate/shock absorber so the lock lugs snap together sharply, I fixed this by wrapping them with old bicycle inner tube - a thick rubber band would do the trick. Also I would prefer a little more metal along the leading edges of the blades to alow for longer life as they get sharpend down.

I'm a gardener and do a lot of shrub pruning and shaping. These are high quality. Very ergonomic and comfortable to use. Incredibly sharp and precise. Easy to use and sharpen. Open and close easily and are great value for money. I recommend buying a darlac diamond sharpener to maintain them. Seriously if you're a professional then you can't go wrong with these. I use them for loads of things, from pruning to weeding to grass edging on a daily basis. I have these on me all day every day. Very versatile, tough and useful. A small amount of mineral oil after sharpening Will stop them sticking because of plant resin build-up on the blades during heavy use. I highly recommend these if you're a professional.

Bought them 1st of Nov. I didn't use them daily, more like once a week tops. Well, they just broke today mid snip. Which says a lot about how the product is manufactured given that it's metal. Do yourself a favour and invest in the much more reliable Jakoti ones. They are more expensive but they last. These are for the bin where they'll probably go now as I don't have the packaging anymore. Waste of money.

A superb cutter for Iris leaves. The huge blades cover a large area, saving time. Very sharp and effective, getting deep down between the plant leaves, reaching hard to get to tight places with the long blades. I am using it on different plants as well, to cut away old foliage and keep prolific climbers in check. It is quite a versitile tool. I received it soon after ordering brand new and in very good condition. Thank you!

As a professional gardener, I've used Darlac tools for many years and have always found them to be great quality. These perennial shears were perfect for my work. Unfortunately I used them only three times before the spring came out and was lost in shrubs. I was disappointed to find that replacement springs are not available on Amazon, so I contacted Darlac customer service twice using the form on Amazon, but I received no reply. The returns window has now closed and I'm stuck with unusable shears. No stars for customer service, Darlac. I doubt if this form ever reaches you.
