Summer School

I enjoy this movie. It great to be able to watch it when I want to.

This is in the top 10 of my favorite comdey movies from the 80s. I wish I had Mark Harmon has a teacher. This movie has all the highlights of what was so great about the 80s.

I actually saw Summer School in the movie theater back in ‘87 and I had a copy of it on VHS at some point but it had been a good, long while since I had sat down to watch it. So, with the new Shout Factory release of the Film, it felt like a good time to revisit the film.Summer School is a movie about high-school, misfits that are flunking out and have to take a Summer session to improve their grades. This film is a little different than the regular ‘80s teen Comedy in that the main stars are the summer school teachers, played by Mark Harmon and Kirstie Alley, and the teenagers are the supporting characters. Both Harmon and Alley were on their way up professionally and it was hoped that they would draw in a big audience.Without going into too much detail Summer School is a fun, if undemanding comedy where Harmon’s Character, Mr Shoop, becomes a mentor to a classroom of high school losers. He ends up overcoming his own self interest to inspire them to better themselves all while pursuing Kirstie Alley’s character. There’s plenty of laughs along the way and the students are mostly full-fledged characters which is unusual for this type of film. The movie also has nice touches that help it move along like: “Chainsaw” and Dave’s love of horror films, a struggling pregnant teenager, Mr. Shoop’s handling of an amorous student, a silly driver’s ed sequence, and a foreign exchange student that’s actually played by a foreign actress. Plus, there is Shoop’s house on the beach, you got to love that!The Blu-ray is nice with an HD remastering and includes a new interview with Richard Steven Horvitz (one of the students). Plus, all the bonus features from the DVD are here but in Standard definition. The only miss is that they should have included the music video of “Mind Over Matter” by E.G. Daily since the actors from the film reprise their characters.While not a great movie, (it was mostly panned when it came out) Summer School is a decent, heartwarming and more importantly funny “high school movie” told from the point view of a Slacker teacher. The characters are generally relatable and seem even more apropos all these years later than when Summer School was released back in the ‘80s. I think the film has improved with time and is a nice break from all craziness that’s going on.

I saw the movie when it came out and miss seeing it again, I love it. going to watch it over and over again.

This was a great movie. All the things Mark Harmen goes through in this Movie for his students is pretty crazy but worth it in the end. Fun to watch.

Mark Harmon leads the way in this totally fun and highly inappropriate summer fun film. Don’t worry if you’ve been sentenced to this Summer School, it’s a great way to spend time with your friends. An 80s standard, learn all the things not to do if you’re a teacher, but want to do if you’re a student! Harmon gets himself wrangled into teaching summer school, only to find he’s given the worst students in the classroom next to the pretty teacher (Kirsti Ally), and having to bring the kids up to standards while having no idea what he’s doing. What could go wrong? Add in they hold him to bribing them into working and you have the pretty girl who needs a home, the guys who love horror films, and do forth... it’s topped off with a dog. Nice way to spend summer. Being a teen in the 80s, this was how many of us wish we’d spent our summers - I was still glad I never had to actually go to summer school, but if it had been like this... Now it’s a look back and still fun under the sun. And a great date night movie.

Ho cercato e trovato questo film nel sito di Amazon ITALIA e con la scritta Edizione: Germania lascia intendere che la provenienza sia Europea (quindi Zona DVD 2). Invece, è arrivata dagli USA, quindi, zona 1 e ri-quindi, inutile nei nostri lettori. Se nient'altro questa informazione era fondamentale.

Mark Harmon est comme à son habitude au mieux de sa forme, et comme toujours très professionnel.

Great movie super classic with shout treatment, a time when people could enjoy movies without political/narative grooming, this is why my Collection is 99% pre 2000 everything now seems to be made for censored market not free markets like America or maybe people are just so negative they can't laugh, oh well I sure will be with this release
