People who oil fretboards have a lot of choices, and I encounter a lot of particularity ... I'm not that guy. I just want the fretboard moistened, with as little effort as possible. I really like this product: the applicator works for me, the smell is more pleasant than many alternatives, and it works. I live in the southwest, and my guitars' fretboards dry out in about six months, even when kept in controlled-humidity environments. This product goes on easily, wipes off, lifts dirt if it has gathered behind a fret ... and doesn't cost too much. One bottle usually works for about 30 treatments for me, and I slather it on. This is one of those small items that is a real difference maker for me.

This oil works great!! I especially like the felt like material on the top of the bottle that controls just enough of a dab to apply.

This fretboard oil was easy to apply and made the fretboard, on my IYV IP-350, look great. If you buy a guitar that was made in a country with high humidity and live in an area of low humidity, oiling the fretboard is a must. IYV Guitars are made in Vietnam, and I live in Northern Nevada, which is a much drier climate. The 6554 Dunlop Fretboard Oil worked nicely to remedy that dry fretboard. Since I had already installed new strings, I used a cotton swab to apply the oil beneath the strings and between the frets. I dabbed the cotton swab on the top of the Dunlop 6554 dispenser and rubbed it on the fretboard, bending and lifting my strings to get beneath and around them. I've watched many videos on guitar care and maintenance; it's important to not over-oil your fretboard. Be sure to apply a light coat and buff it off, after letting it set for a bit. I applied a light coat to half of my fretboard then went back and buffed it with a clean, micro-fiber cloth before applying it to the other half. After I completely oiling and buffing, I used a paper towel under the strings to absorb any oils I may have gotten on the strings. I then applied Dunlp 65 string conditioner, retuned and was good to go!

The oil itself is excellent. Once it’s on the fretboard, the difference is immediate — the wood looks healthier, feels smoother, and honestly plays like an angel in tap shoes. No complaints at all about the actual product. Where it loses a star for me is the applicator and the instructions. It specifically says not to press the applicator down, which I understand is meant to prevent flooding the wood with too much oil at once. In practice though, that turns the job into carefully dabbing your way across the entire fretboard, which feels way more delicate and time-consuming than necessary. I’d much rather apply a bit more freely and spend a few extra minutes wiping off any excess. Not a dealbreaker, but it does make the process more tedious than it needs to be. After 20 years of working on my own guitars I finally ran out of my old lemon oil bottle and decided on this since they no longer sold the old brand I had. Worked just as good and had the same effect as my old stuff. Great job Dunlop.
