Oldie but a goodie.
Excellent iron even if it is a bit dated. Heats up almost instantly and has great heat stability even when soldering on boards with high thermal mass.

Great soldering rig.
If you have to solder more than a hobby. It's worth the few hundred extra bucks. From off to running production in seconds.

Excellent quality, but not what I'd buy.
In addition to this soldering iron, I also have a Weller microsoldering station in the same series, which is nearly a revelation in soldering. I could go on about it for an hour. This one... not so much. It's nice. It's definitely nice. But in terms of a standard soldering iron, I'm coming from the venerable Hakko FX-888D which costs about a third of the price. Going down the lines, I have a hard time justifying this over the Hakko.Does it maintain great temperature control? Yes, absolutely. But so does the Hakko. Is it comfortable to use? Sure. But so is the Hakko.Do you get a clear numeric readout? Yep. Same with Hakko.Do you get a lot of options? You do... but the XNT series tips on the Weller aren't quite as extensive as your options with Hakko.Where things diverge the most is that this gives you nearly twice the wattage as Hakko. And that brings you to the question: "What am I going to do with this?" If you've got a professional bench where you're working with exotic soldering material in large quantities and with high melt points, the Hakko probably isn't going to be enough at 70W. But if you're doing simple household repair and hobby work, how often are you really looking for more than 40 - 50W?The brightest spot for me is the safety rest. I really appreciate the sponge under the soldering tip, as opposed to the Hakko design with it in front of the brass wool.Otherwise, I don't mean to talk anyone out of buying this -- it definitely is a nice soldering station. But it may be overkill.

Why didn't I get one earlierr?
This is the best soldering iron I've ever used, and I've used some good ones. The first soldering irons I ever used were Weller brand, single temperature units while working in a lab at Intel. I also had a simple 40w Weller stick iron with no console for my personal use at home for hobby work. I used the heck out of these things until I became a manager and executive at various companies after Intel. I've got a LOT of hours of soldering in. A couple years ago, I purchased a Hakko FX-888D because my old Weller from 45 years ago was faring poorly and I had some home projects to pursue. The Hakko has adjustable and calibratable temperature control, a slim pencil grip iron, interchangeable tips and has a lot of good features. This was all a long preamble to say, as old guys tend to do, none of those tools hold a candle to this wonderful Weller branded iron. This thing is practically magic - definitely "pro" grade.1. Very quick heat up to temperature - seconds.2. Energy and tip saving standby mode when not used for a bit.3. Base unit and stand do not easily tip over, but are still compact and look good.4. The slim iron is a pleasure to hold and use.5. The console LCD screen is easy to read and understand..6. The controls are straightforward and easy to understand. I did not need to read the manual to get started.- On the other hand, the Hakko did need to have some manual reading to figure out how to use it properly.Other reviewer comments about ease of manuever and use I also back up. This setup really makes soldering almost fun. I figure out ways to use it.If you do much soldering at all, your self or for work, this is the dream iron.

High-end bench tool. Very impressive
I love this! It comes with all you need to get started. The power supply (with screen) the soldering iron, the tip and the stand with its cleaning sponge and coil.It gets to the selected temperature very quickly. it keeps the temperature very steady, ideal for delicate and intricate work. the cable from the station to the iron is long and very "bendy" (I am sure there is a better word to use here, but I cannot think of it. The cable bends tightly and easily without creasing). The handle is very cool and well designed so a long soldering session does not upset your fingers or wrist. The iron stand can sit nicely on top of the station, or the stations can stack. This makes managing them quite easy.Very powerful. Aesthetically very pleasing. A great addition to any electronics bench.

Feel the power
I used a lower wattage weller at work for years and was very happy with it. Having a unit like this with 150 watts of power is absolutely awesome. This thing heats up extremely fast and maintains its heat so much better than the one I used at work. I used this unit to install winch controls in the cab of my jeep and it worked awesome. The conductors were 16 gauge and this thing heated the wires up extremely fast and maintained heat perfectly. It’s probably not necessary for the average person but if you can afford it, need a workhorse and plan to solder larger conductors I say go for it. You will not be disappointed. The unit is stackable, heavy and feels like a quality product. The screen is very nice and is easy to use. The soldering pencil is very comfortable in the hand and the safety rest is a nice design. It comes with one tip and the tips for this unit are more expensive than most. They are around $15 a piece but you really only need a couple and could possibly get away with the one that is provided for most jobs. I am in no way an expert at soldering but I am 100% satisfied and would recommend this to anyone that needs a soldering iron with a lot of power.
