Value Cut Above the Rest: WUTA Bevelers Take Leathercraft to the Next Level
As an hobbyist leather worker, I'm always on the hunt for tools that can help take my projects to the next level at a reasonable price. When I was just starting out, I came across the WUTA Edge Skiving Beveler set and decided, based on price alone, to give them a try. Here's why I feel the these bevelers are something special: The Pros: Cuts clean, precise beveled edges consistently Made of high carbon steel so they hold an edge well Available in multiple widths (0.8mm, 1mm, 1.2mm) to tackle thin and thicker widths Ergonomic wooden handles are comfortable The Cons: If you're not careful, the sharp tips can dig into the edges Can take some practice to get perfectly straight lines Need occasional sharpening to keep blades sharp After just a few test runs on scrap leather, I found myself able to regularly cut rounded edges with ease. When sharp, the carbon steel blades glide through leather like butter, giving me the rounded edges on wallets, sheaths, straps and other projects. Although there are better edgers available, I don't there are any that compete in this price range. If you want to step up your leather beveling and burnishing game, these WUTA beveler tools are a great choice. Their blades, multiple width options, and comfortable handles have made edges easier than ever. I can't recommend them highly enough for for beginner to intermediate leatherworkers. These bevelers cut above their pay grade!

Some rust but still ok
There was a small spot of rust on the shaft of the tool, and some spots on the metal collar. It cleaned up easily. It came with a small steel rod and a piece of fine sandpaper. I used this to both remove the rust and sharpen the tool. With a little stroping the tool cuts very smoothly. It takes a small amount of work to tune the tool up but at a very affordable price you can have a good tool.

WUTA stuff is as good as it gets......and the bevelers are no different..
Took a while to get here, but it was worth the wait... Pretty darn sharp right out of the box, and a bonus small diameter rod and a chunk of really fine grit abrasive paper to touch them up when needed..

okay with "but's"... added a star back...
I came back and changed one star to three, since they work nicely and I wanted to be fair, since I'll no doubt use them at least as backups. Pros: Carbon steel holds adequate edge. They work nice even for a beginner. Cons: First, one of the four edge bevelers had a virtually missing front prong. Zero quality control out the door on that item of they'd have noticed it at half a glance. Then I thought, "well, maybe it will not matter..." then I realize all four completely unnecessarily have a groove on the bottom, not just the top, requiring a special tool to sharpen (craft tool kind they look like require only flat sandpaper). They send you an insulting rod and sandpaper that will only fit one of four ends at best. This was an affront and disappointing and had me emotionally leave 1 star at first. So they got $18 more out of me for the special sharpener required if you use them much. Add that to the price and drawer space. I don't know... maybe being grooved on the bottom guides it a little better, or it's a design patent bob n' weave of design...? Overall: I wound up ordering the craft tool kind elsewhere as my mains but these have value and will work. NOTE, though: these sizes are a bit smaller so when someone says they use a craft tool "3" in a video, it's not the same size in the Wuta exactly. Wutas are a size smaller, I'd say, at least. The cutting edge in a little rounded but the end result is the same, really.

Bad first impression, good recovery.
These came in a dirty, dusty plastic bag. The inside was not dusty, but the tools had surface rust, and just about now I wasn't feeling good about these things. When I removed the cover on one I found out the business end was shinny polished, clean and sharp. While not the best beveler, it's a competent tool. A bit of elbow grease and the rust is gone. And when I went to throw out the bag I found a little metal rod and some emery cloth to sharpen the bevelers. I'm happy with this purchase.
