AWESOME Chopping Block - USELESS Packaging
THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU BUY THIS CHOPPING BLOCK. ok, so let me be clear... this block is awesome. It's a two foot square, four inch thick, 66 pound block of wood. And it's beautiful. Really. The problem is that Amazon hasn't quite figured out how to ship it yet.I learned this because I ordered one and it came wrapped in one layer of bubble wrap stuck inside a big fedex envelope. Needless to say it arrived completely battered up, the corners had broken through the packaging entirely. The thing looked like someone had thrown it out of a speeding car. It was terrible. Well, Amazon does have awesome customer service, so they sent a replacement immediately and promised it would be packaged better.... it was... sort of. This time the block arrived in a single layer of cardboard. No padding, no styrofoam, just some cardboard right over the wood. Overall it was in much better shape, but it still had some really nasty dents in very visible places which were unacceptable. So I called Amazon again and was like "look guys..." and so they sent ANOTHER replacement (seriously, they're awesome).Well, I figured after messing up TWO that they'd get the third one right... Umm... It arrived broken in half. No, I'm not kidding. It literally was broken into two pieces. A big block of wood, cracked in half. And the thing is, it was packaged JUST like the second - in one layer of cardboard, nothing else.So at this point, about $800 worth of beautiful chinese chopping block has been poured down the drain and Amazon actually offered to send a THIRD replacement (fedex would have hated me for having to deliver 4 of these things) But at that point I decided that if they hadn't figured it out by now, it wasn't going to happen and I might as well save everyone some time and money and say no. Problem was, I still really wanted the block, so I ended up working it out with them where I kept the least damaged block of the three and will do my best to sand out the dents.End of the day... go ahead, order it, but be aware that odds are it will arrive in less than mint condition.

still waiting......
ordered and rec'v the BB from Boos. It was really a beautiful piece --------------- at least on one side. The other side had voids where some of the wood pieces weren't the same length as others. This made this side unuseable. Anyway, given the high price for this item, I contacted Boos and arranged for an exchange. The 1st one has been picked up 3 weeks ago and we are waiting for the replacement. Boos customer service has been quite helpful and I'm confident that this will all work out well. Hopefully soon and then we can give this the full rating of 4+ stars you would expect.

Very satisfied
Great cutting / chopping block. I ordered the board for my daughter a professional chef. Did not have the shipping damage or excessive irregular flip side as mentioned in earlier reviews. It came delivered in a thick cardboard carton that put 4 full layers against the cutting surface and 2 at all other sides. I only wish it was reversible and had lifting groves. Great block.

There is a Real Problem Here
I was so excited to buy this John Boos chopping block and was very disappointed that it arrived in such poor condition. It was packed in a regular cardboard box almost the same size as the 24”x24”x4” block, with only a couple of 1” thick sticks of styrofoam protecting only two sides. When I unwrapped, it had one corner totally broken off. Since my prime reason was to use it for the top of a small island in my kitchen, I told the Amazon customer service representative that if I received a decent discount, I would repair it myself and keep it. Nope….only 10% off an almost $500 item so I asked to return. The customer service told me that UPS would pick up on front porch after we repackaged the item. Well, this thing weighs almost 70 lbs and since we are in our late 70’s, that wasn’t going to happen. Customer service said we will get someone to pick up inside your home. This is a real concession and it was all Amazon. Impressive. I still wanted the item so I looked online and price had dropped over $100 so I didn’t do an exchange but a return and a new purchase. Received the new block in a couple of days and was very happy until we unpacked the 2nd one and it was more damaged than the first one. Again, Amazon Customer service was wonderful and had the 2nd block picked up from inside my house. I decided to purchase new block from an individual artisan who appreciates his own work that he makes sure it gets to the customer in a new condition. Sorry that Amazon lost this sale.SO HERE IS MY DEFENSE OF AMAZON. I read a few reviews that had similar experiences with damaged block and “blamed Amazon”. This is not an Amazon packing problem but a John Boos company problem. They are the ones who packed the block in such a poor excuse for a protective box. Their mailing label was on the 2nd box and the 1st box had a label from another retailer so it was a return to John Boos. Not impressed with this company. Not sure how they got so popular.
