Just what I needed.
Since were downsizing after finally becoming empty nesters and moving into a smaller space, I decided I needed to create some unobtrusive storage. I combined this kit, with a sturdy metal zinus bunkie board, a couple legs, and some extras hardware and now I have an awesome storage bed.Nice easy afternoon project. Best part, bed looks the same, and the wife acceptance factor is high on this project.Material in the brackets is extra sturdy and the gas pistons in the kit are pretty much perfect for a king Layla memory foam mattress. Easy up, easy down. I only needed to get some small lag bolts to fasten to the frame, and some longer nuts and bolts since the included ones were just a quarter inch shy of what I needed. But the hardware is quality and would be fine in a different application.Installation instructions are kinda negligible, but easy once you figure it out. The key is to extend the mechanism so the top rail (that mounts to your bunkie) and the bottom rail (that mounts to your frame) are parallel. Now the bunkie will be at the height of that top rail and you need to mount the bottom rail to your frame in a location that gives you the height you want for storage. both obviously should be parallel to the ground and square with each other so your bed is flat. Once the brackets are mounted, and the bunkie is mounted to the brackets, lift the bunkie up extending the hinges and then add your gas shocks in place. They are super stiff. This is normal and required. Now manhandle your mattress on top of the whole thing and that weight should offset all the stiffness and it should move properly.I found it key to know the weight of the mattress and bunkie so you can order the set with the correct weight gas shocks. I also made a point of ordering the kit with the longest support arms (not mounting bar) to give maximum support to the bunkie. The steel used is solid and more than strong enough for the application.I'd also suggest ordering a few bolt on legs to give additional support to the bunkie board and mattress and you are good to go. I use one leg at each far corner away from the brackets, and 3 down the middle of the bed. I also chose to skip the clamping hardware the legs came with and drilled through the bunkie edges to solidly bolt the legs on with good 5/16th bolts and locking nuts and washers.

Great product and easy to install if right setup
These were perfect for our application. One king and two twins. Make sure you select right weight capacity to make lifting and closing easier. I had to install some 2x4s in the twin frames to ensure correct clearance. MUCH easier to install if you have a power screw/drill driver! Once installed they work like a dream.

No instructions at all and bolts to short for a 2X 4.
I’m giving these lifts 1 star because there was no instructions, the hydrolics was very stiff and was too much for the suggested metal bunker board slates I purchased along with the lift for a queen size pillow top mattress. It won’t stay closed so I had to purchase a latch to go at the foot of my bed to latch it closed. I don’t have to worry about it closing on my head cause it’s very powerful and pops right up. It’s hard to close because of that fact. I will say it is very durable and well built. It’s just very stiff and there’s no way to calibrate the pressure.

Stuts need a bit of pressure releasing.
Well, after putting the mattress on the wood frame of our queen size bed and two of us jerking the bed down, the struts finally released. We tried it without the mattress and they wouldn't release. Best guess is they need about 200 lbs of pressure to pop.

Need detailed instructions, very good so far
08/02/21 - ** Installation: It doesn't come with instructions, the only instructions available are in the product description itself. If you are not a handy person this would be difficult to understand and install succesfully in the proper wayRails have many holes for bolts but it only comes with 2 bolts per rail, I had to buy bolts and nuts to make it 3 per rail at least (since they are very long).***** Customer Service: One strut came with a missing mounting eyelet, but customer service was very attentive and provided with the replacement of the eyelet, the only down side was that it came from the manufacturer in china so it took a couple of weeks to be delivered.***** Performance: pretty good so far, i built a king size bed with the lid made out of 2 panels of 3/4" plywood (so really heavy), mattress is the nectar memory foam and it holds everything ok in the rise position, it takes some initial effort to be able to start lifting everything but I might be over the 130kg, after the first ~15° it goes smoothly, and when closing it also goes very smooth.I'll be following this review as time pass to confirm if struts hold the constant use.

Works great for a King mattress
I built a bed frame that would use these hinges and shocks to lift a King pillow top mattress, and a platform made out of 2x4's and a 1/2" sheet of plywood cut into slats. It takes a little bit of upward pull to get the shocks to the point where it will lift unassisted, but both my wife and I can do it. Definitely not a 1 handed lift though. These will keep the bed raised without an issue, and pulling down takes just as much effort. You'll might need to buy some extra lag bolts/screws and washers to attach it to your frame, but those are cheap. I had to countersink the provided bolts about a 1/2" into the side of a 2x4, which was then screwed to the inside of the bed frame.

Gas spring set - seized or just too powerful.
Like everyone else - not sure if the lift mechanism has seized or if it's just too powerful. I have it all mounted but had to remove the mechanism as the bed could not be lowered. Love the bracketing - but as others have said, I figured it out on my own as there were no instructions. Want to love this - but just cannot.
