This product is naturally hard and color/texture will vary depending on temperature. This product will melt when warmed above body temperature and become solid again when cool. This is natural and may affect the appearance, but will not harm the quality of the product. If hard, shea butter can be softened by placing in a pan of hot water for 30 minutes or microwaved until soft. Great for Dry, cracked or chapped skin in need of moisture, especially on tougher areas such as the elbows, knees and feet. It's perfect for daily use. Can also be used as a scalp moisturizer.

Very smooth. Was very easy to rub on my skin as lotion, or apply to my hair to reduce frizz and add a healthy shine. No allergic reaction - which, coming from me, says a lot. I am allergic to most hypoallergenic lotions and products. This brand is very high quality and thick.

I am very impressed and in love with this product. It melts beautifully into a very spreadable liquid form, and makes a wonderful, creamy home-made lotion. It also makes a life-changing hair and scalp moisturizer. A very small amount (about the size of a pea) melted in my hands and mostly used on the ends, then the very small remainder on my scalp makes a powerful source of hydration for dry hair in the winter without making it greasy at all. I have fine, abundant, dry hair that appears dirty very easily; but using shea butter on my hair and scalp seems to be able to moisturize both without making them look dirty at all. The smell of this product is also quite mild and very natural. It has not triggered migraines for me—and I am extremely smell-sensitive—since I began using it over a month and a half ago, and I use it two to three times daily. Melting and mixing with your favorite moisturizing oils and essential oils makes for a very safe aromatherapy lotion for migraine-prone individuals. Overall, this product has been amazing and essential in all of my natural skin and hair care products I’ve made. I will definitely buy again, and I would recommend this product to anyone.

There is a saying in Colorado about skin products: "You put the moisture in and Colorado sucks it out!" Shea Butter is an exception to that rule. When you apply Shea Butter, it stays put and does it's job! And I like NOW brand Shea Butter. This inexpensive and decent quality Shea Butter is exactly what I need in my cold and super-dry climate. It doesn't cost an arm and a leg so I can use LOTS of it. And it isn't a mineral oil laden artificial product so I am not worried about toxicity. I put it on my hands and heels daily for super soft and smooth skin. The texture is gritty when applied but I attribute that to the dry, thin, cold climate where I live. Once massaged into warm skin, it gets melty and smooth and absorbs in. The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of five stars is that it is NOT organic. For that reason, I'll probably be on the lookout for something comparable that is clear of all toxins. However this product is Hexane free, which is a good thing. For the time being, NOW Shea Butter is fine with me and I'm not too worried about it. If organic is important to you, then you probably won't be satisfied with this product. Shea butter is the only completely NATURAL product that rivals petroleum jelly for it's ability to super-hydrate and hold moisture inside the skin. But petroleum jelly is definitely a super petrochemical product and therefore not something I am comfortable using. In my area, it is important to have the heaviest, deepest moisturizers available and that is shea butter. Here in the Rocky Mountains, the conditions are the acid test for any skin moisturizing product. If it works here, it will work anywhere! Highly recommended!

It's excellent for people like me, with very dry skin due to psoriasis. This is my second jar.

It’s very gritty. It melted in my fingers after some rubbing so it was smooth, but the next few times I tried rubbing, it just rolled off into flakes. If you try applying it directly to the skin, it hurts!

My favorite shea butter!

It’s not the real Shabbat it feels like substitute and the consistency is different. and the box looks different.
