Just a random question that I hope someone will be able to answer. Why did these become so expensive?

I'm guessing because they aren't in production and haven't been for years. I have owned these for a couple years now and they are fantastic! They are my go to when listening to only music and when I don't want an over the ear headphone. Bass is deep, mid and highs aren't compromised as well.

no, they don't leak sound at all. Just make sure you put the right sized pads over the ear buds. They come with 4 sizes, so you have to choose the one which fits snugly in your ear.

How is the build quality of these? would they take a bit of a beating? also how large is this, perhaps in comparison to a quarter (the tips i mean)?

While they are well made, hefty even, I would not suggest over exposer to inclimate weather, mud, excessive dust, or physical stress. They ain't "sports" phones. I use them while cycling, and excercising, so they're nit delicate, but I'm very careful with them. In fact, I'll probably buy a cheaper spare to use for the aforementioned activities. It's just hard to listen to music through inferior phones after being spoiled by these. They come with different size tips if I understand you correctly. The housing though, as mentioned in other reviews, is larger than others in yhis category, but not clownish. I pair mine with a Fiio amplifier (forget model, the one that's around $25-$30), for a warm, rich sound. You'll also appreciate the flat, tangle-free cord vs the round that tend to fray and ruin headphonea. Hope that helps.
