Q: Will it hold up? My dog can play pretty hard?

This isn't really a dog toy. More of a dog-shaped toy. I can't see it lasting long at all if given to any dog since it's a fairly soft, squishy rubber.

Q: Is the packaging in Japanese?

It's in some (I think) Asian language, just like on the picture. Comes in a cardboard box but can't really remember which brand or lettering that had on it. Great toy for if you want to part with friends with hyperactive kids. ;)
