This Riley Moderno 2-piece snooker and pool cue has been perfect for casual games at home. The “Moderno 2 Piece Ash Snooker Cue” from “Riley” is a full-size 145cm (i.e. 57”) snooker cue made from quality North American Ash. The snooker cue screws together in the mid-section with a strong, tight and incredibly smooth screw-joint. The quality of the screw-joint along with the rest of the snooker cue is very impressive. For the very reasonable price of the cue, the quality is far beyond what I expected. The cue is coated in a thin but incredibly smooth layer of matt varnish, which not only provides a very smooth action for cueing with, but also helps protect the cue from moisture and warping. The matt black base of the cue is similarly well protected and smooth in your grip allowing for a comfortable grasp on the cue for a smooth cueing action. The aesthetics of the cue is excellent. Personally, I think it looks and feels like a high-quality cue, with the Riley insignia on the end and the understated but classy colouring and branding. All in all I’ve been very impressed with the snooker cue. Far better quality than I expected, especially considering the very reasonable price. Very highly recommended.

The sample I was sent to review on first impression was much better than I expected for the price point. Seemed high quality wood, very straight and easy to control. The cue is a two piece and is easy to transport but please note no case was included. (this is correct, it never claimed to include one). It's a lot better than some of the other entry priced cues I've tried. Would recommend this if you can get it at a good price, you will be happy.

This cue like another cue i have goitten off Amazon has no issues for playing, there is nothing wrong with it, but it has to drop a star for other reasons. Having not played for a few years, i have taken the opportunity to start again with my wife and the quality of this cue for £55 is pretty good but with an issue that for most snooker players is always a pre-requisite and thats a single pice cue but in half and then joined which this is not. It does appear to be from the same piece of wood as it all matches except the grain which is not even close to matching. The cue itself is perfectly weighted and balanced and is not warped in any way.

I ordered this cue as it was meant to bare shaun murphys signature which it did not Which is not as advertised one star was given coz it was the lowest available minus one would be more apt

I'm not a pro but have handled a few cues in my time, and this is a quality, well finished stick. Standard 2 piece will fit into most cases (not included) and the tip is delicate enough for both snooker and pool. Standard brass threads are compatible with most accessories making this a great starter cue. It's relatively light weight in the base (I prefer something heavier) but ideal for younger players or those who just prefer a more delicate touch. Highly recommended at this price point.

A long while ago now, I played pool for a local team, I still have my old cue in the loft, but it isn't a patch on this one. I liked the idea of a new cue to hopefully spark my interest in the game again, plus my old cue may not be what it used to be after being in storage for so long. This Riley cue feels and looks amazing, something I would expect from a UK company that dates back to the 1800s. The cue itself is made from North American Ash, and there is a rapid release brass joint in the centre. The listing says that the cue comes with a soft case to protect it in transit, but there was no soft case, just the plastic bag and cardboard box that it was shipped in, I don't know if this was simply an error with the one I received, or an error in the listing. I haven't had a game of pool with this cue yet as I will need to find somewhere to start up again, but it certainly feels good and look the part. I think that £54.99 for a Riley cue of this quality doesn't seem unreasonable.

The cue has a nice feel and is straight, no sign of warping. The listing used to say it comes in a case...but the cue came in a clear plastic sleeve, i'm not sure if this is a case, but it does nothing to protect it! This seems to have been removed from the listing now. The placement of the logo at an angle on the butt makes it seem like it is misprinted, the paintwork is a bit shoddy around the rubber butt protector. Worst of all the "splicing" on the butt is not splicing but is instead just painted on. I did expect better from Riley with how cheap it can be to machine splice cues, The photo does not match the joint, it is not fully threaded, instead it uses the better QD connector that only takes a couple of turns to fully seat. The tip is nicely shaped out of the box and has a lot of height so will last for a long time with reshaping or maintenance.
