A seminal text, worth studying for valuable insights into mediation/yoga. Each Sutra is a short statement which is followed by an explanation of its importance to the study of Yoga/Meditation. Swami Satchidananda (who opened the Woodstock Festival in 1969) did a very nice job translating this and I find it to be accessible and easy to read. I keep this pocket edition in my yoga bag so if I have a break before a class, I can make productive use of my time.

I have begun the study of the yogi sutras and also have the full version of this book along with other books. This is a wonderful, concise companion book and can be used as a reference. I had been taking notes while learning this and now they have done that in an easy fotmat. Exactly what I was hoping it would be.

The book includes a CORRECT translation of the Sutras. Unfortunately, it doesn't go deep into the EXPLANATION of the Sutras. The translations is indeed a must have, but I have the feeling a further explanation was possible yet not given.

This is the yoga of the mind (true yoga) laid out in a detail whose depth the reader uncovers further and further over time and dedicated practice to an insecure able degree. The levels of spiritual and psychological understanding and knowledge that Patanjali attained so long ago are at a level of depth of mind that are rarely encountered and are as immense and aid to the meditative practitioner as the Bhagavad Gita, the Nikayas, the Dhammapada and Tibetan book of the dead are and by all means belong on the same shelf on the book case..

Didn’t realize it was a pocket sized book

The messages are great however the way it’s written made it VERY difficult for me to comprehend or read more than a few pages at a time. I understand it’s translated and that can get dicey, but I have a hard time with it because I’m dyslexic. I don’t normally enjoy audiobooks but this one would’ve probably been better.
