Good and fun workouts
I really like this video. I wasn’t sure what to expect with the dance part but it is two separate workouts: dance workout and a step workout.You can choose which one you want to do or do both. I thought I wanted the step workout but ended up liking the dance workout more! Maybe because dancing is fun to me whereas step exercise is not so much fun as a good workout to do. The instructor gives really good instructions in the dance workout and my two left feet were able to do it without much trouble at all. The step workout became a little more complicated for me and I stopped it. But I will come back and try it again, I was just tired by the time I got to it. The background is fine, the music is just right and the instructor is personable and cute with a nice voice and she cues well. Sometimes the video shows her feet so you can see how it’s done and it’s a great to have that. I really like this video and am glad I stumbled upon it looking for a beginner step workout but happy to find I actually don’t have to do the step if I don’t want to. I can do the dance workout which is actually fun to me! I am glad this instructor has rhythm because I have a lot of exercise dvds where the instructor doesn’t and that throws me off.

Great step aerobic video
I have purchased and tried three different step aerobic DVD's and like this one the best. I only do the step aerobics and have not tried the dance workout. I always feel good afterwards and believe it has improved my posture and reduced/eliminated my occasional back pain.The moves/combinations are easy to do and well explained. The workout moves fairly quick so it took a few run throughs before I was able to accurately follow along on all the movements. There are multiple places where the instructor offers suggestions for making the workout easier (e.g. less arm movements, substitute squats for jumping jacks, etc). This is good because otherwise some folks might consider this more of an intermediate workout than something for beginners. Recommend starting without any risers/lifts on your step.

Cool aerobics for refresher course!
I've been out of sync with my aerobics for some time and have looked around for a dvd that would get me back in the swing. This helped a lot. I was familiar with the moves. Some new ones weren't hard to grasp, but during the actual execution of the steps I'd discovered that the instructor had some mishaps on which foot you should be working with. I've used it a couple of times now to know when the misguidance is coming up so I won't stumble. But other than that....it's not bad for the price. There's a dance routine for getting in shape that I don't use, but I guess it's would benefit those who want to do Dancing with the starts for beginners. Good video with a small error on guidance for those who want to sweat and get the heart in shape.

Beginners? Yeah, idk about that...
I like the instructor. She takes you through the steps in dance and step aerobics before you start. Music leaves much to be desired. No fun music. Just the same old blah generic crap. As usual I study the steps and exercise routine beforehand so I know what I’m in for. I am not an exercise lover. I like to have fun and get my exercise that way but I’ve done step aerobics before and enjoyed it. Figured I’d take it up again. Watched the step aerobics first. OMG. Maybe I’m super out of shape or something but this definitely seems much more advanced than beginners. Got discouraged right away. Honestly, I’ll probably start with the tutorials first and work my way up. I’m competitive and hate falling behind or having to stop in the middle then loose my place and focus. It just really doesn’t seem like a “beginners” exercise routine. Disappointed overall.

Not fat anymore :)
I purchased this many years ago when I had no dance experience, was very out of shape and well over 300lbs.It's perfect for absolute beginners--just as the title says. She walks you through every step in slow-mo before actually doing it at a regular speed. Loved it. Had she not done this I would not have "gotten into" dance videos.If you have any dance experience or are somewhat in shape, you probably don't want this video. It will be too basic for you.Other reviews commented on her technique, etc... I cannot. All I can say is this video does exactly what it's supposed to do--teach beginners. And, her voice isn't super perky and annoying which is a bonus.It's a few years later and I'm not fat anymore. I attribute this to her videos.

Effective
I have begun working out again since I finished school and this video was the first in a string of purchases to get myself into better shape. I have been using it regularly for about a month and have found the instructions are clear and consistent, the routine makes me sweat every time, and is easily adaptable for use with a bosu.Update:This is still one of my favorite videos but for the avid stepper I can see how it could get boring quickly. The routine is simple enough to master, and it definitely does the job. After about 2 months using this and Debra Mazda's Shapely girl I find myself liking shapely girl more and more, it just seems to have more to it.Overall great for beginners just like "Absolute beginners" indicates but doesn't take long to want something more.

This was a great workout for a beginner. I am 59 and love to dance so that part was easy the step part took a minute or to but once I got the hang of it I was ready to go for more!!

I STILL can't dance.......
I'm a beginner at aerobic step and this is a good place for a beginner to start. Nekea Brown gives good instructions and has a warm personality and I've done really well with the step portion of the DVD. The 'simple' Latin Dance steps are hard for me. I still practice with the tutorial, and I still can't do the dance steps after about a month of workouts. Oh, well. I'm still not ready to give up on myself.If you have to get some of your workouts in at home, this is a good place to start for a beginner.

I am not at all coordinated but had finally found a class that offered step arerobics "at my speed" and I absolutely loved it. Then the gym closed. Wah!But then I found this video and YAY! I'm back on the stepper! Super easy to follow and leaves me feeling pleasantly challenged and sweaty!

Disabled and in recovery?
I can't do a full workout, the body won't comply but I do the introduction where you learn the moves and I love it. No worries I can't and don't use a step yet as I'm unable to but Nekea is terrific and I feel like she holds my hand through.Beginners BUY!!!!!!

nice 1/2 hour workout really have enjoyed it
it works well for morning workout before going to work, challenging enough but not a huge time commitment.very well done, good instruction
