I've used this card to transfer over 25 hours of footage, using a Sony DCR-TRV250 camcorder as the source device and the free WinDV app on Windows to record avi files, which I then transcode to a compressed format using Handbrake. This card was compatible with multiple Windows 10 installations of mine on a plug-and-play basis (i.e., without needing to install any drivers), and has so far worked without any flaws. Disclaimer: This product comes with a cable, but I have not tested it since I already had a FireWire cable paired with my camcorder. I've also only used the 6-pin slot on the card and have not tested the 4-pin slot.

This worked flawlessly. I plugged it into the PCIe slot on my mini ITX format motherboard, booted up and voila! I use this primarily for a legacy scanner, Nikon Coolscan 8000. It only has firewire. I'm using Windows 10 and have had no issues operating the scanner.

This is literally a plug and play item. I popped it in; Microsoft read the chip automatically, and now I can transfer videos via FireWire.

Installation was straightforward, easy, and Windows 11 on my new Dell immediately recognized it. Started a video transfer and as soon as I powered up the Sony camcorder with the provided firewire cable hooked up, Power Director 2024 came up. I hit "record" button on the software and sure enough it started recording the video...but only for a few seconds then it stopped as if I had hit the "stop" button. Not very computer literate but I tried all I could think to do, including following suggestions in some of the reviews, but to no avail. Downloaded different capture software thinking (hoping) it might be just PD 2024 and am still trying to figure all that out. In the meantime, reached out to Links Tec support via email to see if they could assist. Giving this a 3 star for now as it did install nicely and my system did recognize it. Given that I do now have this record problem and I had to contact customer support, I'll upgrade my rating depending on how customer support responds and if the problem root cause can be identified and corrected. Hoping for a good outcome here so I can ultimately give a 5 star for good product and good customer support. 12/14/25 Update: Well...problem was with Power Director 2024 loaded on my new Dell. Dell Support loaded the latest version but I found I can't use PD 2025 for video capture as it no longer has that feature built in to it but, other apps I've downloaded work just fine and I no longer have the previously described issue. Giving this product a full 5 stars now because it has answered all my needs in capturing videos from my 8mm camcorder using firewire technology.

This card was 100% plug-and-play with Windows 11, with no need to mess with drivers at all. Powered PC down, added card to open PCIe slot, and showed up immediately as a "VIA 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller" in device manager once booted back up. Using WinDV to dump the tapes to an AVI file, and it's working beautifully. If your old MiniDV camcorder still works (I was lucky to get mine working again) and looking to get your old DV tapes into a modern format and you're on Windows 11, this card will work for you.

Easy to install, worked the first time and seemed to handle whatever I threw at it. I was expecting it to be more of a pain in the butt so that was a relief. Update 5 months later: I'm saddened to have to reduce this rating to 1 star. About 3 months after I first reviewed this product, I started noticing a decreasing in the speed that my data was transferring - I ran some tests and instead of getting around 200mb/s, I was getting around 30mb/s write speed and roughly double that read speed. If that had been the only issue, I probably would have only dropped it to a 3 star rating - this is a budget controller and most likely just didn't have the bandwidth for the sort of heavy use that I put it through. I went ahead and bit the bullet and bought an enterprise class controller at 20x the price of this one - I wasn't even upset, was just going to migrate this card to another computer that doesn't have the same workload and go about my day. It was when I started moving the data off of the existing drives so I could migrate it to a new array - it became incredibly slow during sustained read operations which should be the fastest operation - and every couple of hours one of the drives would go offline and I'd have to reboot the computer. This made the data migration a tedious exercise in figuring out what files were copied successfully and then starting a new migration from that file on - and just generally made me question the reliability of the card. To be fair to the card - if you are just looking to have a couple drives and not a heavy user, and if you do not want any features, it isn't a terrible card for $15 - you could do a lot worse, but I bet for $10-20 more you could also do a lot better.

Great way to retrofit your modern computer! Easy installation. I’m able to transfer my .dv files to my modern but lame OS windows 11 :D

Does the job! bought this to use in my asus za690 pro gaming motheroard to capture video from my sony DCR_TRV24e handycam Hi8 tapes. Drivers were already installed in device manager on windows 10. Had to use virtualdub2 using 32bit as 64bit doesn't show any video but the kit does what you need it to. delivery was expected for the 15th but arrived 5 days early which was great. would give 5 stars but the box packaging had a tear on it and the seal was broken as if someone had opened it.

This adapter does exactly what it’s supposed to do, without any fuss. We used it on an old Windows 2000 machine to keep some legacy equipment running in a virtualized setup, and it worked right away. No drivers to hunt down, no weird configuration — just plug it in and it works. Build quality feels solid and reliable, which is especially important when you’re dealing with older hardware that can be picky. It’s one of those products you forget about after installing, and that’s the best compliment I can give. If you need something dependable for legacy or specialty setups, this is a great choice.

Plug and play on Windows 11 to get my old M-Audio ProFire 2626 interface working. Did not work in the PCI-e x1 slot on my Asus x470 motherboard but it did work in the secondary PCI-e x16 slot. That might be my PCI-e BIOS settings but to be considered if you only have an x1 slot.

Fácil de instalar. Mi computadora con Win 10 la detecto e instalo drivers sin problema. El cable incluido agrega valor, ya que no tuve que comprar otro aparte. Todo funciona como debe.
