Getting to know Steve the gear-head
I knew about SM's love of fast machines from 'On Any Sunday' and 'Le Mans' but I had no idea the depth of his love for speed and the machinery needed to facilitate moving quickly. The book is an exhaustive description of his favorite machines, from Ferraris, to dune buggies, to Husky motocross bikes, etc. If you like McQueen, and you like fast machines, just buy the book.

Steve McQueen the man and the machines a must have!!!
I recently bought this book and it is a very good insight to the life of an American icon.Steve McQueen was a great actor, but more than that he was a even better giver. Steve gave to charities in secret and it was not until his untimely death, that is was revealed just how much of a charitable person he was, to include him asking for gobs of items like shoes and food etc. to give to local needy peoples. The cars, motorcycles, airplanes, that Steve McQueen acquired would be a dream for any car enthusiast. If you like Steve, or automobiles, this book is a must have for any aficionado. R.I.P. Steve McQueen

Before Jay Leno's Garage there was Steve McQueen's hangar….
As Matt Stone himself said, there are plenty of books aboutSteve McQueen, this is about his cars and bikes. It is indeed a clever idea. One wonders how Steve found time to film the movies he did given his preference for racing and riding. The stand outs to me are as follows.McQueen became an impressively informed collector powered by a junior high school education. Which just goes to show that people who want to learn a subject successfully teach themselves.I will be reading his first wife's story about Steve. It will be interesting to see how the claims that he was into physical fitness square with so many photos of him smoking and the apparent long term drug use. But we tend to forget just how many people smoked then. How did he manage to stay so good looking one wonders.Kudos to Stone for letting us know just how successful Steve was at racing. He and Peter Revson won an overall second at Sebring in 1970 in a Porsche 908, several of the larger machines dropped out but they still did it. And he was quite successful in numerous other outings on both two and four wheels.I bought the kindle edition for my seven inch fire and was disappointed the photos were so small and could not be enlarged. For that reason I rate the book four stars, the star cars deserve larger photos of detail. For any guy growing from teen to adult in the 1960s who enjoyed Great Escape, Magnificent Seven, Thomas Crown, how this guy used his fortune is most interesting.

Steve McQueen
I've followed Steve McQueen since I was a teenager in the 50's. Cool guy, he liked cars and trucks and I knew that he had some rare motorcycles and cars. This book was perfect, gave some background on what he owned and enjoyed. The book was informative, lots of text and pictures were outstanding. Also some comments from Steve's son and a few others who knew Steve back in the day. There were a couple of auctions to sell some of the collection, fortunately Steve's son was able to keep a few of his personal favorites for himself. This book will be a nice addition to my library.

I Want One of These Ex-McQueen Machines!
As the author of several car books, the latest being, Twenty-Five Affordable Classic Cars I have been an observant fan of cars and car people for many years.Steve McQueen has a hold on the imagination of classic car lovers even after all these years since he died - far too young.Matt Stone does an excellent job of bringing McQueen's car collection to life for the reader and he brings those of us who never met Steve McQueen a little closer to the "king of cool".As car collectors we now all want to find one of these ex-McQueen Machines and buy it!

One of my heroes
I grew up in LA when he was just coming into the big and met him, just a regular guy. Myself and a couple of my friends would talk to him from time to time. At the dealership (Ekins place) and sometimes on the strip when he had the black Speedster. I can't think of anyone better. I only rode Triumphs until I got to old to ride because of him!

A Must Read for McQueen Junkies
If you are a McQueen junkie this is a must-have, if nothing more than knowing the name of the factory color for the 1970 911S that McQueen drives in the opening scenes of LeMans-Slate Gray. McQueen's personal 911S was a '69, and also Slate Gray, which is still owned and driven by McQueen's son Chad.McQueen's Machines is exactly as the title states, a reminiscence of some of the cars, trucks and motorcycles that McQueen owned in his all too brief life supported with very good photography. A satisfying picture book.
