Expensive for what it is
I was intrigued by the idea that I could create centre pull balls ( from those pretty but annoying skeins) at home without having to pay a large amount and all the set up of a swift or similar yarn ball making set up.I will list my perceived issues with this first, then the positives at the end...Firstly..this is slow, and I Mean muCh slower than just rolling and winding it into a ball by hand.Secondly...it is just a smooth tapered stick, yes it has the bumpy handle but really that is for show and adds no value other than it makes the stick look nice, so if you can sand & polish a stick yourself you might want toI went for the light version, although I have the knit pro symphonie needles set I did not see why I should pay 50% more, as the photo did not make the multicoloured wood version look anything like the pretty symphonie needles .It is simple to use, however the constant figure of 8 and turns, makes the whole process longer, for example a ball of fybrespates scruptious 4 ply took me 2 hours 15 minutes to wind by hand, but 4 hours to wind by this stick method.Having said all of that, the positives are clear...Using the stick method you get a looser ball with both centre pull and regular outside start end optionsIt is faaaar less expensive than a mechanical yarn winder, although if you are winding lots of yarn your neck, shoulders arms and wrists would thank you for going mechanical. It is easily transportable, it is just a stick so no issues with airport control, fits in a yarn bag easily as is only slightly longer than regular length knitting needles. It does the job, well I would say it helps you do have he job, whether the cost & extra time are worth doing it this way? Not convinced yet.

Wonderful wool winder
I love to this tool. Feels great to handle. Wound single spun thread into a centre pull ball and then plied the wool with thread coming from inside and outside of ball.Great for making large and small balls of wool/yarn.Very happy with purchase and would recommend

Essential bit of kit for knitters and crocheters alike
I bought a winding yarn baller and this, and this produces much better results whether it’s a small or large ball of yarn.
