Great read for baseball buffs
As a reader who loves history in general, and baseball in particular, this is a very satisfying book. It is very well researched, and interleaves the 19th century origins of baseball with the 20th century. It deals with the entrepreneurial, gambling, and persona which characterized the development of baseball into an industry. The character profiles of Ruth, Cy Young, Miller Huggins, et. al., along with Ruth's particular story, are well developed.

A great read!
Peluso combines his obvious love of baseball, history, and New York city with his excellent story telling skills in this historical novel covering the early years of the 20th Century. His factual bases are obviously well researched. This is a book for anyone who enjoys a good story and appreciates the history of the early 20th century. Baseball fans will appreciate the pictures of the game's early development and the players and other characters who made the game our National Past time.

A great novel to honor one of the greatest
Never cared for baseball until I came across Ralph Peluso’s novel 512. This emotionally charged and detailed story of the men that turned the sport into a national passion is an in depth journey through the early days of professional baseball, the inside deals, and the making of a legend. Author Peluso follows young Georgie Ruth or Gaeawgie– as called by brother Mathias, the one person that ever cared for him–drawing readers into the life of the emotional scarred, nevertheless relentless future legend through his well-earned victories, self-sabotage and the pursue of CY Young’s magic 511.Set against the backdrop of the early 20th century, when a number of social outcasts and miscreant youths went on to become famous, and through the endless feud with the mean spirited Judge Landis, we witness the tumultuous rise of one of the greatest in the game.

What a wonderful book for any baseball fan
What a wonderful book for any baseball fan. As a work of historical fiction, the author obviously did a lot of research into baseball early in the last century and into Babe Ruth's personal history ad intertwined it with a captivating story about what might have been if the Babe had continued as one of the game's historically best pitchers. I can't wait to share it with my many baseball friends.

I agree with an earlier reviewer. The content here calls for a period piece movie. The story is well written and and covers the depth and breadth of the game and the players (Babe Ruth), bringing a human side to to the legacy. I wonder if John Goodman has a son who acts? You sense early on that Ralph Peluso writes this book with a passion.
