In the 1960s, bourbon and money flowed freely in the Parisian neighborhood of Pigalle. Here, the city came alive at night behind closed curtains and in the company of mob men, gender-bending performers and prostitutes who made love without boundaries. Then there was Georgia (Lou Doillon) - alias Gigola - a temptress who dressed like a refined young man and used her charm and wits to rise to the top of the urban underworld. Still haunted by the suicide of her first mistress, Gigola sparks a string of torrid affairs with enchanted women, like Cora, a young barmaid, or Odette, an old aristocrat who lavishes her with extravagant gifts in exchange for sexual favors. Based on the long censored novel of the same name, Gigola captures a little known chapter in Parisian history in which eroticism defied conventional morals. Delightfully filmed with an old-fashioned sense of theatricality, Laure Charpentier's directorial debut is above all a portrait of an audacious woman who forged her own trail through life.

Gerontology Fun
A story of the same gender attracted beautiful female-cum-"mister" pimp making by herself good money on very rich women seeking solace from women, who gave a birth to a boy just to leave him with mother of her. What is all this about? Sex-sold money doesn't smell! Not much news.

Lou Doillion Gigola and Places
Bought this because I'm a huge fan of Lou Doillon. Love her new album "Places" -- Not sure whats exactly on in this film or why she played this role... I do know it's a very personal act.Whenever I watch or listen to Miss Doillon she is running from and towards something .. notably a lost love of some sort.. and fully expressing "that" seems to be an obsession which makes for great art.. (Edvard Munch, Klimt comes to mind). She's been shadowed with her incredible extended family (do the research yourself it's extensive) and I know she'll overcome all of that past stuff.Just be yourself Lou!

Soooo lost in translation...
French film.So Bad.Weird.Very looong story short. Ugly French girl drops out of med school to become a pimp, and has a thing for OLD women.Warning ** very unappealing sex scene with a 70 year old woman.Spoiler** she wants a baby, so she sleeps with a guy, changes mind gives bb away. end.Would never recommend this film.

It didn't work.
The first copy of this DVD I recieved would not play past the twenty-eight second introduction. I returned it to Amazon and the replacement did the same thing so I returned that one too. They may be simply bad DVD's or were for some region other than USA.

about as appetising as reading Radclyffe Hall's The Well of Loneliness
Having had to re-read Hall's The Well recently, her literary ghost nudged me in the ribs as I viewed this film with an increasingly forensic gaze. Much like The Well, it is such nonsense on steroids that the task was not very difficult, except when the film descends into the gratuitously unsavoury. In its own way, an 'empowered' Stephen Gordon - Georgia-cum-George-cum-Gigola - is not much better than the original martyr Hall so lovingly created. The two stars I have given Gigola go exclusively to the two magnificent Spanish actresses, Marisa Paredes and Rossy de Palma, both well-known from several older Almodovar films. They are sadly underused (and in one case, abused). Finally, Gigola is really not as bad as the prudish shaming in The Killing of Sister George, but that is indeed a very low bar to set.

it could have been so much better. still I stayed with it until the end
an intriguing and interesting concept for a movie, but unfortunately the cast let it down. the lead role(lou doillon)hardly seemed a threat to the police or pimps, but was portrayed as. very wooden acting and she couldn't master the act of holding a cane or walking well. pity, it could have been so much better. still I stayed with it until the end.

Sans passion.
A voir pour Lou Doillon qui est intéressante en garçonne et pour la description d'une époque qui a existé.Le scénario se perd et devient d'une tristesse peu agréable. A voir une fois pour son originalité et pour joindre à sa collection !!!
