Nice mechanical pencil - comfortable to hold
I've used Staedtler pens before and was impressed. So when I was looking for a mechanical pencil, I decided to give them a try. I'm glad I did. This pencil isn't the fanciest thing in the world. It is mostly plastic construction. However, the rubberized triangular grip is comfortable to hold. It isn't overly thick as the photo might lead you to believe, but it is thicker than a standard pencil. It measures just under 6" in length. The eraser is interesting. If you twist the end of the pencil clockwise, it extends. It's small, though, and I can't say I'd actually use it much -- I try to keep an eraser handy. The barrel is a nice metallic blue color. The pencil itself is manufactured in Japan, which surprised me -- most of Staedtler's products are made in Germany.Anyway, if you're looking for a mechanical pencil that is better than average but still in the price range where you won't pull out your hair if someone nicks it, then check it out.

Excellent Pencil, Great Eraser
This very nice-looking pencil has the formal appearance of a ballpoint pen. Its pencil mechanism retracts fully into the point so that it is pocket-friendly. The eraser is a VERY long thin cylinder that twists-up by twisting the end button to extend it as you use it. The eraser is soft and efficiently removes HB lead marks completely and cleanly. The thin diameter of the eraser allows you to accurately erase small spaces without damaging other parts of a sketch or line of script. The triangular shape of the pencil is comfortable in the hand. The grip section is rubberized but is not squishy or soft. The price is excellent. This pencil is just perfect for me. I am VERY happy with this! The card does not show or tell you how to add lead to the pencil, nor is there an instruction sheet inside the bubble on the card, but you pull out the push button (requires a strong pull) and the eraser mechanism pulls out to reveal the place where you drop in new leads. The pencil comes with two 0.7mm HB leads.

Very Nice
Amazon had extremely fast shipment from their warehouse. I wrote Staedtler in Germany and Canada to ask where on can buy replacement erasers. The home office said to contact their Canada office for erasers. I did that 2x's over the past 2 weeks with no reply. I did find that Office Depot, Canada, lists Staedtler erasers and lead for this 760 Pencil. It is pretty cool and had been used to Pentels 9mm pencil with large screw type eraser. I was looking for a change in pencils and this Staedler fit the bill being retractable and the 7mm lead is okay.I would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for having to buy replacement erasers out of the country. You just can't go to your local Office Depot and buy their lead and erasers.

Buy it for its looks then use a Triplus Micro to write
Pros: Triangular shape. Everything I write with is triangular. Gloss blue looks classy.Cons: Clip interferes with rotating to avoid flat spot on lead and triangular shape makes this worse. Suddenly feels cheap when you pick it up. Eraser is horrible and nearly impossible to find replacements. I prefer the Triplus Micro over the 760 and they cost a whole lot less.

It's a Staedtler !
What does Staedtler make that is not nice??? I bought this and the Koh-I-Noor Mephisto at the same time. I thought I would see which one was best and then return the other but...I kept them both! This is a VERY comfortable pencil to use. It's slightly thicker than normal, but not as thick as a Pilot Dr. Grip. Really good if you have big hands. It has a triangular body which is great in the hand - it just fits perfectly. It has a good sturdy clip. The nice rubber grip is more comfortable than a knurled grip for long periods of drawing or writing and the whole tip retracts into the pencil. Nice design on the eraser mechanism too - no cap to pull off and lose. The top half of the body is plastic but is it doesn't look bad (although not as professional as the Koh-I-Noor). I really like this pencil. It checks all the boxes for me. Where many mechanical pencils fall into the "show horse" category, this is a true "work horse". And for the price - it's a winner.

Great pencil -- uses Paper Mate # 64896 (PAP64896) erasers
Great pencils. Similar to the discontinued Paper Mate Apex mechanical pencils, but a little bigger and a little easier to use (for me). In fact my guess is these are built by the same Japanese company who built the Paper Mate Apex. They are similar enough that you can use Paper Mate erasers, # 64896 (PAP64896), which are fairly easy to find. If you have trouble finding those you can also buy Paper Mate refills for the "Tuff Stuff" eraser sticks, #64818 (PAP64818). These are twice as long, but are the same diameter, so you just cut them in half.

Very reliable
Pencil is precisely what I needed: comfortable to use and the graphite does not break as easily when compared to writing with cheaper mechanical pencils.

Nice and neat writing
Use it to solve physics problems, smoothly draw lines and keep up with the numbers, I just love it.The eraser is a little thin though.
