What not to like when you feel great?
This book was suggested by my primary care physician. I am struggling to loose weight and I have tried different variations to make changes: intermittent fasting, keto, no fat, etc. diets. They did not work. Yes, you are shedding pounds initially but it is mostly a water weight. Then you feel miserable, and everyday is a fight with your demons in shape of yummy foods you can no longer allow yourself as you will break the diet. I read the book, it is pretty straight forward, calculated how much protein, carbs and fat I need with my active life style and created a food plan. So far the results are: I feel great, no hunger, and energy level increased, I eat more fruits and veggies and good fat with protein.I did not yet step on a scale as I want to wait a bit. But overall I feel it makes much more sense. I am going to come back to this review by end of this year and provide more concrete results with measurements.

Do your math before you attack a NOBLE PRIZE WINNER!!!!
Sear's ZONE is not a 30% high fat diet. It is a balanced diet based on the amount of protien consumed by the musles each day and the ratio of fats and carbohydrates. Sear's endoreses 1 protien unit 7 grams or 73 calories or 57% of cal to 9 grams of carbs or 42 cals or 32.5% to 1.5 grams of fat or 13.5 cal or 10.5 %. Ketosis only commonly occurs in type I diabetics like myself this is cause because my body does not produce insulin any longer and fats are burned to survive at such a high rate that the bodies ketone level rises. Non-diabetics need not worry about there diet causing KETOSIS. Diabetics must consult there doctors and find the right insulin regiment to match there carbohydrate intake!!! The cause of Ketosis is that the diabetic did not take enough insulin!! This will not happen if the diabetic monitors his sugars and will only most likely happen if the diabetic is ill (this diet or any other may not change this) or if a diabetic stops his insulin injections, which is likened to suicide. This is a diet based on maintaining a chemical balance based on how much protien is destoyed by the musle ware and tare, by fuel needs ie carbs and fat needed to regulate your biochemistry!!! This balanced diet will help diabetics establish a steady supply of sugar so insulin control may be better. I have seen 3 poeple on this diet lose wait then stablize on a fix wait that only changed if they excercised more and increased musle mass!!! This diet will help the type 1 dieabetic face his greatest enemy hypoglycema. The diet has a low sugar in take ie 32 % vs the 60+% diet that I was put on. If I am not very careful with a high carbo diet my sugar can be all over the place. The lower sugar ie carb diewt (carbs are converted to glucose ie sugar) The more carbs of different types ie various amount of sugar can lead to more insulin reactions a controled medium sugar diet with steady intake ie eat atleast every five hours and eat foods that are slow absorbing will lead to less insulin hypoglycemea. This is chemistry that has won the NOBLE PRIZE!! Sear's is right about the importance of insulin. Anyone intersted in reading more facts about insulin should read Diabetes be David Nathan MD or the AMERICAN DIABETES ASSOCATION Complete Home Guide to Diabetes. Ernest Boehm , Diabetic and Chemist

A friend suggested this to me
And he lost a lot of weight on this diet. I however never read a single page of it. I am more of a fiction girl and have no patience for this type of reading.

Excellent Book
I was recently diagnosed with both Type 2 Diabetes and Hypertension and needed to change the way I was eating immediately. A friend of mine suggested I check this book out. Good call!I've been following the suggestions for about a month now and have purged my diet of all of the unnecessary stuff (sugar, fast absorbing carbs, excess salt) that effect my condition.I always ate chicken, fish and salad but not in the quantity or manner that I do now. Initially the diet took some getting used to, tho' I think that had to do with the fact that I was consuming a lot of empty calories previously (and a lot of it sugar). Once I got in the groove tho' it's easy to follow. In addition my weight has remained steady for month.Sears is a Biochemist so the book can be extremely technical, and some of what he recommends is at odds with the previous Food Pyramid and the new Divided Plate concept that the Health Dept advocates. If you wish, and Sears suggests it, you can jump from Chapter 1 right to the diet and skip the scientific principles behind it. Personally I found those chapters fascinating as I was trying to come to grips with how I got myself into my Diabetic condition (the Hypertension is hereditary). The good thing is that nothing is actually off limits in this diet. In other words you don't have to give up the food you like, you just have to pay attention to the portions, etc. (way less than you used to eat), and regulate when. He even has a section that gives you options at fast food restaurants!So...I'd highly recommend this book regardless of your reasons. Sears has a web site also:[...]Where you can find more info, etc.Tom

Used Book Sold as New
This book although advertised as new is a used book. I found at least one page so far that’s been flagged with sticky tab. Other than that, it seems ok. Have not finished reading it.

This changed my life
It is funny how I found this book. I have been struggling with a mysterious skin condition, that happens when I ovulate, where my skin almost blisters and dissiningrates, it is painful and takes forever to heal. I have been on bio identical hormones for 18 months, and realized this does not happen when I'm on birth control. so I researched and came to the conclusion that my skin and other problems was a result of prostaglandins. So instead of my usual remedies, I tried taking Advil and voila, my conditions calmed down. So now where do I go to get help? I didn't want to take Advil all the time, as it shuts down the good prostaglandins as well. Then I saw an article about arachnaic acid being made at ovulation which makes prostaglandins. I remember seeing a YouTube video with dr Barry sears being an authority on this subject, read some articles and then bought this book. Man this was a treasure trove for me. I LOVED all of the scientific explanations of what was actually happening in my body. The book was written over 20 years ago so some of the references seem funny now. I think this should be called the zone principles, as you can follow any style of eating using these principles. I eat low FODMAP foods for my IBS, and remove acidic foods for my bladder, and I can still easily follow the eating principles. The first week I lost 4lbs! Plus my digestion started back up after 2 days ...I now have bought the omega zone, and plan to buy more books by Dr. sears, I find his science, his personal story, and his credentials fascinating. This is the first book on health, and how to eat that makes sense on a deep level. I did have to mourn the fact that it is calorie restriction, but deep down I know that this is right for me and my body because I just feel better, and don't need the supplements I was taking to digest my food before. Both of my parents were type 2, and both also died from cancer within 4 months of being diagnosed. I watched them struggle their entire lives yo yo dieting, but never found a way of eating that was healthy. I feel I have the tools to manage the inflammation in my body, maintain clear skin, prevent serious diseases, and improve the quality of my life, all thanks to dr sears sharing this knowledge.

Good way of thinking

Great book - a completely new way of thinking about food
Before I bought this book, I believed that the food we eat can really affect our lives. I had had a few episodes of depression and suffered quite bad with pms. Following the guidelines in this book has not only made me feel so much better mentally, but I am physically stronger, have lost a few pounds (although I am quite slim anyway and I wasn't really looking to do this), my blood sugar levels have balanced and I don't get bloated like I used to. I've also really toned up without doing much exercise. The ideas are simple to understand and the food plans aren't anything fancy. I'd recommend to anyone.
