Used to tint taillights.
Works well and applies easily. It's holding up well so far. Gives the taillights a nice smoky look. I used 3 coats, takes about 3 hours to fully dry. Would recommend using a clear coat after for durability.

I used it on wood
I have a small, matched set of DAC/AMP for headphones with cases made of mahogany. I wanted to make the cases appear as black, but still see the grain in the wood. The mahogany had a thin clear finish already, so I didn't have to prep it much. To be clear, I wasn't using this product as intended. Still, I had some issues - first, there were areas that ended up cloudy. I don't know what caused this, other than perhaps humidity. Second is that in the end it was too dark. I could have just used black paint. Third, I used nearly the whole can on these small cases. Yes, that would explain the darkness, but I was really just making light coats, trying for even coverage. I've gotten MUCH more coverage from other brands. I sympathize with anyone trying to do the same on a plastic lens. All said, the finish looks good (better than the photo) and it dried HARD. This is important because some paint remains gummy long after application. I'm stacking these units and don't want the upper one leaving footprints in the finish of the lower one. This HAS happened to me before, using a very well-known aerosol paint brand. Overall, the project turned out well.

Perfect Lens Tinting - Professional Results!
VHT SP999 Nite-Shades has delivered exactly the translucent black finish I wanted for my automotive lens covers! This specialized coating creates that perfect smoked look while maintaining light transmission for safety and functionality. The application process is straightforward with excellent spray pattern and coverage. The paint goes on smoothly without runs or drips when applied in light, even coats. Multiple thin layers build up to the perfect translucent black depth. What sets this apart is the translucent quality - it darkens lenses beautifully while still allowing light to pass through effectively. The finish looks professional and uniform, creating that custom automotive appearance I was aiming for. The durability has been outstanding through weather exposure and regular use. The coating adheres perfectly to plastic lens surfaces and shows no signs of peeling, fading, or deterioration after months of outdoor exposure. The coverage is excellent - one can handled multiple lens covers with product to spare. The specialized formula is designed specifically for automotive applications, which shows in the superior adhesion and finish quality. The final result looks like professional custom work rather than a DIY spray job. The translucent black creates exactly the right amount of tinting without making lights too dark for safety concerns. This lens coating has achieved perfect results for my automotive customization project. Outstanding specialized product that delivers professional-quality finish. Highly recommend for anyone wanting custom lens tinting!

Doesn’t last. Fades out too fast
Product works pretty well and there are no real secrets. The tint looks nice but I did clear coat it to maintain a glossy look as this stuff dries with a satin type finish. ISSUES: Unbeknownst to me, this product FADES over time. I completed the tail light tint a few weeks ago with great results. Super cool looking blacked out color but transferred light quite well. I was super pleased. Several weeks later, I noticed the lenses seemed redder than before. Every day since, I notice it getting lighter and lighter. Now the lenses have a Dr Pepper color instead of a black appearance. Time will tell how long it will take to loose its tint all together but I’m not expecting much since it’s only been several weeks since I tinted them. I wouldn’t wast my time, money or lenses on this product again if it’s not going to last. Next time I’ll get professional tinted automotive clear and do it the right way. The photo is right after it was done. It doesn’t look like that anymore

Does the job well. Nice shade of 'true' red, but color does fade in direct sunlight. Recommend clearcoat to preserve gloss.

I bought this to spray some incandescent globe lightbulbs thinking they’d stand the heat. They do not.
