great cooks knife
A cook by trade I read about this knife in a Food magazine, so I had to se what the hype was about. Extremely please with this knife, especially for the price. Would have been Happy spending $40 OR $50 on this Knie. I own few other knifes that i spent $100+ and this product comepares to those pretty well. Been using this knife daily for 2 1/2 months at busy place and it still has a great edge. still happier with my Whustof but it was 3x the price.

Awesome inexpensive knife
This is a great chefs knife. The steel is pretty good and holds an edge for a decent number of uses. I like the wood handle when I'm trimming meat as it doesn't become slippery. The fit and finish are a bit rough. But the price is fantastic for what you get. This is way better than most of the other cheap knives like Furi and MUI, which are a waste of time & money. The only line of knives which may be better is the Kershaw 9900. I'd definitely buy again.

Don't care that the foodie reviewers say such nice things about this knife company
So heavy -- have to be a weight lifter to use this knife. Don't care that the foodie reviewers say such nice things about this knife company. I found it horrible. Wood on the handle hurt my hand after a few minutes. The knife wasn't balanced and was so heavy. Give me the America Test Kitchen cheapo and I am happy. This one is going in to the donation pile --waste of $$$.

Pretty expensive for what is essentially more disposable Chinese-made junk
Pretty expensive for what is essentially more disposable Chinese-made junk. I was fairly happy with its initial appearance and functionality. The steel is on the soft side which is fairly typical for German stainless. It does sharpen well, but it doesn't seem to hold an edge for long.Anyhow, after a month's use, the wood handle cracked. Wood is a natural material and is subject to internal stresses, I know. I handwashed it and dried the knife immediately after each use, taking care never to soak it. I didn't oil the handle, but hey, it was only a month's use. I didn't think it needed that much maintenance. So I wrapped the wood handle with fiberglass tape and epoxied it. I'll save it for uses which don't require a sharp knife.

alright price... CHEAP quality
It seems like it would be such a good knife but in reality it is HORRIBLE. the edges are so raw and rough. the handle is so uncomfortable and the knife is so dull!!! just realy really bad

a german and indonesian beauty
Got this as part of the set. My set has beautiful construction, good fit and finish. Good ergonomics, good balance. Excellent steel. They use x50crmov15. The same German steel formula used in Henkels and Wusthofs top of the line series (H&W use crummy steel in the knife series they sell to most people who own the respective brands). Schmidt Brothers uses only top grade steel. Teak is sustainably farmed in Indonesia.I am a professional chef, and have a LARGE collection of knives, most of which are of the "functionally ugly" sort. These are my knives for my day off when cooking for family and friends at home. These look absolutely gorgeous on the counter-top in the home kitchen.BTW, the Schmidt Bros Teak series was chosen by Oprah for her "Favorite Things".
