During the "French and Indian War" both Britain and France tried to "hire" Cherokee mercenaries. The interaction between the British, the Provincials, and the Cherokees evolved into a full-blown, separate conflict which twice required action by the British military in the southeast, especially in the colonies of South Carolina and far western Virginia.
