works well with sbc crusader engines
I installed this marine distributor on my 5.7 liter (Gm 350 cubic inch) crusader 270 engine. It works great. The boat has twin engines. A note for other DIY mechanics... (On those engines) The distributors both spin in a clockwise direction, regardless of normal or reverse rotation. The number one cylinder on the engine remains the same, and the rotor should always point to the number one cylinder when at TDC, while installing the distributor. Only the firing order changes on the cap with wire placement accordingly. I'm only writing one review, but I ordered two of these with the red super cap. The distributor is coastguard approved and has the numers stamped on the side to prove it if you get an inspection. They appear to be very nice quality. A replacement cap and rotor can be purchased at almost any auto parts store, if needed yesterday! We'll see how well they hold up in a marine environment over time... You can obviously spend more money... but why?, when these will do the job... and do it very well. ;)

Wiring for Mercruiser alpha 1 shift interrupt switch
The distributor works very well it’s pretty tall so make sure your engine cover clears it and don’t over tighten the top cover screws they strip easily. Wired this through my shift interrupt switch using a 5 pin marine relay. My interrupt switch is normally open so when the switch operates it activates the relay cutting power to the distributor. Put power (purple wire) to the input on the relay and the power input to activate the relay. connect the distributor power to the normally closed wire on the relay. Hooked up the tach wire from the distributor to the tach wire on the boat engine wiring harness (grey). Connect the white wire with a green stripe coming from the interrupt switch to the ground wire on the relay. If your interrupt switch is normally closed a 4 pin marine relay is the thing for you. Had to rotate my oil pump 90 degrees with a long screwdriver in order for the distributor to drop into place. Hope this helps as the directions for this were in broken English and very vague but I would recommend this distributor.

Easy install, significantly improved performance.
Replaced the distributor on my 7.4 Mercruiser. This helped clean up the wiring on the engine by removing the Coil Pack and overall outperforms the quicksilver equipment I had been using. Thrilled with the upgrade and relatively inexpensive for the performance.

Awesome upgrade
When I blew a head I decided to go with aluminum heads, so upgraded intake to a 4bbl, and a 1409 marine carburetor. Also went with marine hei distributor. Great results in take off and getting up on step. Installed on a GM 5.0(305) in a 30ft boat (one of twins. Cannot wait to get the other side done.

Good replacement for Thunderbolt, but not perfect
It's an copy of the GM HEI, without a vacuum advance. It has the Coast Guard approval number and a little flame trap built into the bottom. Other than that, it seems identical to any HEI you'd get for a SBC. The only issue I have is it RETARDS the timing ever so slightly just off idle. I set mine to 8 degrees at idle, just off Idle (increase revs 200 RPM) it drops to 6, or thereabouts. I assume this is due to some poor tolerance in the mechanical advance mechanism. With that said it did what I needed and made my old 5.7 Magnum run better than ever. It's smoother all through the rev range, and has a nice midrange punch it never had before. If you're struggling with an old Mercruiser Thunderbolt ignition and don't want to break the budget, give this a try.

Marine Rated?
Dead after five months. Highly recommend not getting this product. Complete waste of money and a piece of junk.

fitment
doesn't fit a highrise aluminum dual plane chev manifold. width of base hits cylinder 8 manifold runner so will not lower into engine enough to engage cam gear.
