Mammals of Michigan Field Guide (Mammal Identification Guides)

What a wonderful, beautiful, and complete guide to every single mammal found in MI. This book gives all the basic info one would expect to find and alot of info you wouldn't expect. It even has an illustration of each animal's tracks! Incredible! Each mammal also has a range map so you can tell if it's found in your own part of MI. The photos, of course, are gorgeous, but the info is priceless. I photographed a brown mouse outside a couple years ago that I, in my ignorance assumed was some brown variation of a regular old house mouse. However, when I got this book I was able to compare my photo to 2 species in this book that are very similar, the deer mouse, and the white-footed mouse. They look almost identical but have slight differences in their tail, their feet, and their ears. Using this info and also the info in the book about how common the deer mouse is and how it's rather docile as opposed to the white-footed mouse being rather hostile, territorial and far less common, I was able to identify my cute little subject as a deer mouse with little trouble. I LOVE THIS BOOK! And I can't WAIT to use it more.

I love this little field guide!! It’s small and light enough to take on nature walks and it’s packed with good information! It’s also great to read during a long car ride!

The books of Michigan mammals is a nice, quick reference field guide for quickly identifying the items in question. Our entire family is enthralled with their large pictures and descriptive summaries!

Purchased for my son's college course. He liked it so much he decided to keep it rather then resell, as he does his other college books.
