Arrived with corroded batteries installed in it
It said that three AA batteries were required in the specs, but mine came with three corroded batteries in it. I had to pry the battery cover off since there was so much corrosion. I sent it back and will buy another brand. After reading another review with the same problem, I fear they will all come this way.

Units come with corroded batteries
I bought one of these for my mom. When it was delivered, she opened the package and found that the batteries had corroded. She tried cleaning up the battery terminal and putting new batteries in. That did not work. We returned the item and ordered a new one. The second one WAS THE SAME WAY! My mother likes these little weather radios but will be trying to find a different type that does not come with pre-installed batteries.

Works well, included batteries can be a issue though.
Hello again AMAZON fans EVERYWHERE!!Radio works very well - so well I had to take it out of the bedroom because it is so loud too and scares the *BLEEP* out of you when it goes off in the middle of the night. One thing to keep in mind: I purchased from one of the alternative vendors; the radio was new in packaging, but the batteries which came pre-installed had leaked, requiring a bit of cleaning of the battery compartment. Also make sure that the AC adapter is firmly seated; we woke up one night with it beeping strangely, kind of like a smoke detector with a weak battery. The batteries were only a week or so old but putting in fresh ones solved the problem.Programing is not too difficult, just a slight challenge. Overall I am happy with it.

Oregon Scientific Portable Weather Radio = not bad
I bought this item about a month ago. I am still unsure how the SAME technology works, but the radio is fantastic. It has an alert buzzer that could wake the dead. I even take it to work on days when I am expecting bad weather so we are prepared in the office. Other than the startling effect of the alert system, I know my coworkers appreciate it. I have also traveled with it to other states, and it keeps me posted on weather happenings in those areas too. The only real disadvantage is that it seems to blow through batteries, cause it is giving me a "battery dying" warning symbol already. But a minor complaint for how well its performing.

My 2nd purchase, after my first one died after 11 years.
This is my second one of these I have had. The first one lasted me 11 years. I live in Fl and I need my weather advisories, during thunder storms and hurricanes. I put my county code in, plus 2 surrounding counties. If you are not going to put the county codes in, it will go off constantly. It is actually very simple to program, but the directions are poorly written. The first button sets your time and date. The second is your channel selector, and the last is your county code. There are seven channels, cycle through them to find a station. It is loud, it suppose to get your attention, to let you know if a storm or tornado is heading your way. If you don't want it on, put it on mute. It will receive the signal, and flash on the screen there was an alert issued. Two test signals are sent out every Wednesday, to make sure your device picks up the signal. I am a very satisfied customer.

Not Quick and Easy
I bought this weather alert radio because I wanted something that I could grab and take with me if I needed to head downstairs during a tornado. The problem with this radio is that it is not easy to set the date, time, or the selected stations. The instructions are not clear, so I gave it to my husband who is a whiz at these things and he struggled with it. We still aren't sure we have it set correctly! Don't think I'd choose this one again. Just hope it works when it needs to!

Wouldn't feel safe without it!
We live in the country and with t.v. provided by satellite dish, if the weather turns REALLY bad, your link to weather is instantly erased. If the power goes out, unless you have a battery operated radio, you're virtually in the dark....and a tornado could be cruising through the neighborhood. Living in a house surrounded by fields, we've witnessed our share of bad storms, so this item is a great heads up for bad weather. We already had one of these and added this 2nd unit to my husband's shop. They're sturdy and dependable. Five years ago I "launched" it from it's resting place by accident (I wasn't paying attention and it hooked on something and went flying) but the antenna only cracked slightly and it STILL works perfectly! I love the fact that it has a battery back up and can be taken anywhere. If you fear losing access to accurate warnings, this is great. If you live away from a City, it's a MUST!

Great Portable NOAA Radio
I gave # 2 of these weather radios as gifts to a friend and his Mother. Both units are working well and both individuals find them priceless. The Mother lives alone on a ranch in South TX and the radio has come in handy, alerting her to the upcoming weather. The friend is on the road 90% of the time. The radio has assisted him in his driving habits (finding alternate roadways to avoid flooding, etc.).
