Canon xf100 is the best camera for portability, documentary, and behind the scenes!!!
Canon XF100 Professional Camcorder with 10x HD Video lens, Compact Flash (CF) RecordingI tried and tried and tried to get my hands on this camera before a recent shoot in Alaska, but it just couldnt happen! OMG every place I tried to get it shipped from was OUT OF STOCK and ON BACK ORDER! Can you image my frustration! I finally found it only after I had caught the plane to Alaska and ended up having to have it shipped to Alaska! I bought it from Unique Video, who actually is a legit and fully stocked store! Watch my video review to see the lengths i went through to make sure they were real and cool, cause at the the time they were the only ones who had this camera in stock!Another thing.... think about this... this camera debuted AUGUST 31, 2010 and it is STILL nearly impossible to get ahold of! YES SERIOUSLY! If anything, THAT alone should tell you something!OK so my first shoot with it was in Alaska. Hiking around carrying this camera around is a pure breeze. It weighs 2.2 lbs naked and 2.7 lbs all dressed up ;) that is NOTHING to carry around all day I promise you! I bought this camera because I occasionally get to work in the motion picture industry, and I shoot professional video as a career as well. This color space on this is 4.2.2. which is good enough for broadcast and the BBC uses these cameras as well. This camera is perfect for behind the scenes videos, documentary filmmaking, and its small and compact and light, and is a totally professional set up. A note here if i might......I would spend some nice money on getting a great microphone for it... in the motion picture industry they say that having great sound is MORE important than having great video.... not that i agree, but thats what they say... so spend bank on a mic (seninheiser has a great one for about 1k) anyway... shooting with this in Alaska was epic. I had it in my back pack carrying it around when it was not on my neck.I am very pleased with even the on board mic... Im not really into the sound of things cause a lot of what i shoot gets sound put over it... so its NOT at the top of my list... but the onboard sound is great! Some people think that this camera does not do so well in low light... but i tested it in low light and found it to work just fine.I found out that the WFM button is something that i may use in the future but for now, and for the films I have shot for, its not needed.... (in my video I made note of the fact that at the time I didnt know what that button was for). All of the tests I did with it, in MHO passed with flying colors. There has been nothing that I have not liked on this camera, honestly. Id love to get two or three of them for multi camera stuff... Im sure it will be difficult seeing as the trouble i had with trying to locate just one of these for purchase!Canon, as usual, has made an exceptional product. You get so many professional features in this little package that it really is worth the money. Canons menus are plenty, but, thats an ongoing thing with Canon, and once you learn the system its a breeze.Ill leave the rest of the information to my video review! Hope you enjoy it!Hope you are as happy, and can locate one of these little beauties, for your own purchase! Im am pretty sure you too will be happy with it!If you decide to buy please do use my link located in this post. And be sure to watch my 16 and 12 minute review on this little hottie!OH GEEEZZZZ JUST TRIED TO UPLOAD MY VIDEO AND AMAZON SAYS ITS TO LONG! OMG! ILL HAVE TO RECORD ANOTHER ONE AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT TO PACK ALL THAT INFO INTO 10 MIN!!! SAD THAT IT HAS TO BE UNDER 10 MIN LONG. OK SO ILL BE POSTING ANOTHER VIDEO SOON. SORRY ABOUT THAT YALL!!!!Happy trails! :)lee

Big Things Do Come In Small Packages
I haven't had any of the low light situations occur that many have spoken of since I pretty much have control over the lighting when I record. I just sold my Canon XH-A1s to a buddy because I didn't want to spend the extra money to upgrade it to tapeless. It is a great camera though. I am now working with two xf100s and the Panasonic GH3, I use a h4n as my audio recorder and I am currently working on a talk show titled "Tell It Like It Is", with Minister John Coffee so you guys will be able to see how the Gh3 plays with the xf100. Thus far the performance from this little camera has been nothing short of spectacular, the menu is easy to navigate around and even the on board mic has done better than expected (I still prefer to use a lavalier and the h4n for cleaner sound). Buy the xf100 and enjoy it, it is a work horse.

Great Camera for the non professional who needs a professional cammera
This is definitely a professional grade camera that is still with in the price an armature can afford. What I like is the price the ease of use and the small size of the camera. What could be better would be for Cannon to provide a manual that better explained to a non professional why and when each feature is used, rather then assuming a professional is reading the manual.Great product at a great price.

Not Drag and Drop clips like NORMAL cameras
Although its a great camera for low budget film makers like myself the issue of the files formatted in .MXF instead of AVI like other cameras SUCKS!!!, Unless you have conversion software to go from MXF to AVI,or your current video editing software has a conversion feature, youre pretty much screwed. You cant import or drag and drop your clips to your editing software without a conversion feature.

big disapoitment
this camera producing not acceptyble picture quality for the price. canon put this same technology to mach cheaper camcorder like VIXIA HF G10 /XA10 this same lens and imager 1/3 .The camcorder xf 100 makes video very grainy with moskito efects....in good lights maskito efects changes to e water efects and colors makes washdown ,outlines on objects blurry.Generaly the camera is not redy for the market My hmc 700 panasonic comcorder is 500% better than this one and cost only 1000$.The other fiture like teleconverter is complitly joke bringing the moskito from all around the world.loosing focus when you zooming frequently.CAMCORDER FX100 IS VERY EXPENSIVEWith all basic accessories 4500k

Not a professional camera..
I got two XF100s for my event videography business and after 6 months of use I can definitely say that these should not be considered a professional video camera..But I'll start with the good. What I like about the camera: The camera body is very small and light. What I hate about this camera: The main problem with this camera is that it is almost unusable in anything close to low light. The Noise produced at even moderate gain settings is enormous. I have had to use de-noising software on almost all the footage from this camera and that creates other problems with quality..The button placements are not ideal for ease of use. there is only one ring that has to be used for focus/zoom/iris adjustment. So you have to press a button behind the screen in order to switch. Just not as user friendly as it could have been but not really too big a deal if you are not using it in a run and gun situation..The viewfinder is unusable. Must use the screen which is not as high-res as the Canon SLRs.Yes the specs on this camera are impressive for the price but in actual use the single 1/3 sensor can not handle the job..For the same price you could get a canon slr that, while being much less easy to use, will produce much better footage. So unless you plan on using this camera on using this camera in perfectly lit conditions, STAY AWAY!
