I used this to cut 2" thick foam for the inside of a gun case and it handled it just fine: complete cutting, consistent heat and clean lines. Caveat: it was slow going on thick and hard foam (1" per 6 seconds) but that is good as the faster you go, the faster you'll make a mistake. Keeping the wand at a 90° angle is important, so I made a work rest using a 2x2 angle bracket and a small hose clamp. Also, cardboard templates are V E R Y helpful. Take it slow, plan your work.

The media could not be loaded. 2” memory foam was being more chewed up rather than burnt. I believe that the temperature never got hot enough to cut thru neatly, then as it moved thru the foam the mediocre temperature was dropping due to contact with room temperature foam. Made it thru about 12 inches of the foam, then this cutter died. Boy was I thankful that it did die because the mess it was making was limited to only 12 inches. Scissors worked much better and this result looked decent rather than the burnt marks and jagged edges on the part cut by this cutter.

This worked absolutely perfectly and saved me a ton of time from trying to cut through Styrofoam another way. It was very easy to use, it heats up quickly, and it does exactly what it is supposed to do with no issues. Definitely recommend this product, it saves so much time.

My shipment arrived quickly and completely. The box & instructions are simple & straight forward. It reaches operating temperatures relatively quickly but the round design leaves a void for any resting position. Once I compketed my "cut", the only stable resting position is on the switch side - not expected but a bit of annoyance hiding the on/off switch. Turning off the device is annoying but with the lighting fast temperature climb, I lean to safety first.One after thought surrounds clean up: no way to escape the melted foam 'strings' (MFS) forming - be prepared to somehow safely remove the MFS or deal with the MFS stench as it burns off the heating element. Even with their rest point deficiency, this tool works well & is a great value packed tool.I wanted to time the cutting of 1" x 24" piesce - it was ready @25 seconds but I waited until 45 seconds to start cutting. Initially, it went really smooth for about the first 6 inches; then I applied a little sawing motion. I'm pleased with the results and have ZERO pieces of styrofoam clinging anywhere.

This was OK. It did the job, but I was also nervous I might light the foam on fire. The directions say that you shouldn't use on high density foam, but that was exactly why I ordered so I went with it.I have never used this type of tool so I have nothing to compare it to. It heats up quickly and puts off a smell. I think someone else said to use it like a pen which is a decent description.My recommendation is to go slowly and possibly pause to wait for it to heat up again as you're going. It works smoothly when it's hot, but not as well the more you use it. It did not make a perfectly smooth cut, probably because of the high density, but it was pretty decent for my purposes.

Removed several large windows from a building and closed them in and used 2 inch foam insulating panels. Used this tool to cut the panels it starts cutting fairly fast but slows a little as it cools while cutting. I expected the slow down and it cut perfectly much better than using a saw it was slower but no mess to deal with. Very happy with this item I would buy again if need be.

The product looked fine, but when I tried to use it for the first time it did not seem to turn on. The needle also did not heat up. Neither the light on the cutter itself came on, nor the light on the AC adapter.It seems like this was broken from the start and I am going to have to return it. This is frustrating, because I was hoping to use it for a time-sensitive project.
