This worked for me with the AK90+ key programmer
If you have a solid understanding of how these keys are programmed, and you follow the instructions (not provided) on exactly how to program a key using your AK90+ key programmer, and you make sure you get the same type of transponder chip that your car originally came with- then I believe this key will work for you as it did for me. A quick search online should help with the basic steps how you remove your EWS unit from your specific car. Then you would remove the ews board from the plastic box, grind the coating off the pins, connect the AK90+ key programmer to the EWS, run the AK90+ software, read and save the EWS data, program the key and assign it to one of the 10 slots that are available, check that it is in a slot marked “active,” then save the EWS data with the new key data added, then write back to the EWS, and finally reinstall it into the vehicle and compete the key intialization sequence (key to position 1 and back 5x, remove key, hold unlock button and theb press lock button 3x while holding - then release unlock button…) Only if you follow all the instructions to a “T” will this work. I accidentally bought one with the different transponder type the first time I tried programming a key so I was able to lock and unlock via the fob, but the key would not start the car. Purchasing the one with the correct type for my specific vehicle solved the issue. This information was on the back of the original diamond key, I should have looked there first to be sure I was purchasing the correct type.

Can't code this key
So to cut it cost $40.. then you have to find someone to code it which is different than programming it. Can't find anyone to code it, so if you don't code it , it won't start the engine. Programming only locks and unlocks the doors. Yeah you an do it yourself if you want to take off the dashboard bottom and find the ews and then you need to buy a programmer tp code the key. No thanks

Worked fine on my 2001 E39
Took about 10 seconds to program it to lock/unlock the doors and that's all I needed it for. Haven't attempted to program it to start the car so I can't speak to that, but it works great as a remote for the central locking system.

Works like a charm
Once you get one of these, there are 4 things to do. Have a locksmith cut your key to match an existing key, program the remote functions, code the key to work with your EWS system, AND add a BMW logo decal in the dead center. After that, you won't know the difference, and better yet, neither will your car.

Perfect.
Programmed and it works great on 2002 BMW 5 Series.

Awesome!
2003 BMW 530i. Works perfectly for me! I haven’t looked into getting the key cut yet but my original fob died and I’m basically just using it for the keyless entry and to set the alarm. The quality of the key is great too!
