The quality of this vacuum is perfect for small jobs and the interior of your automobile. The battery life is amazing. It is easy to use. The durability and the docking station have held up very well. The suction after years of use is amazing.

I am an organic gardener in a hostile land roamed by plant devouring bugs and pests. The nemesis of every gardener here, organic or not, is the stink bug. Conventional farmers spray their crops half to death fighting this enemy while organic farmers and gardeners get creative. I purchased the Black & Decker CHV1410L 16 volt Lithium Cordless Dust Buster Hand Vac as part of my 2 part stink bug eradication strategy. So far, it works great! Early in the squash season (summer squash and zucchini are the stink bug’s favorite prey) I lift stink bug eggs from the leaves of my plants with duct tape. Inevitably however, stink bug babies emerge from the egg clusters I miss and begin killing my plants. (Rabbits could learn about rapid reproduction from the stink bug.) In defense of my helpless plants this year, I started vacuuming stink bugs from my plants every day and flushing them down the toilet. I pull hundreds of the horrible death creatures from my garden every day thanks to my Dust Buster! WHAT IS IN THE BOX: One hand held cordless Dust Buster vacuum and charging base. The vacuum operates on a lithium battery which is included. WHAT I LIKE: The battery on this hand held vacuum lasts longer than I do. I almost always give out before I burn through the battery. I can suck up lots of stink bugs before I have to empty the vacuum. Emptying the vacuum chamber is simple. The “quick” empty normally allows me to get rid of all the bugs, but when I have a stubborn batch, I can get at them from the filter side of the chamber as well. The reusable filter washes up easily under running water. I love not having to worry about a cord!!! An organic farmer friend told me he uses a shop vac to eradicate his stink bug population, but I don’t have an outlet anywhere near my garden. I love being able to leave the vacuum on the charger at all times without destroying the battery. I always have full power available. WHAT I DON’T LIKE: I really wish this vacuum exerted strong enough pressure to kill the bugs as I sucked them into it. I hate dealing with live bugs when cleaning the chamber. VIDEO: I am including a video demonstrating how well this hand held vacuum sucks bugs off my plants and even the debris covered ground. This is a great little vacuum. It does a great job sucking up stink bugs as they cling to leaves and straw and I can only imagine how great it would be at cleaning up stuff that doesn’t resist being sucked into it. Definitely a great purchase!

This is a great option for a handheld vacuum. I’ve purchased several of these over the years. This one lasted around a year, cleaning up after two rabbits daily who have longer hair and shed a lot. The motor started making an awful squealing noise and no suction. So time for a new one lol Pros: Light weight Easy to use Easy to clean Holds a charge for quite a while Cons: Only lasted about a year before the motor died

I purchased this in November 2020. It is now Jan 2026 and the vacuum is still working well. Very easy to clean out filter; easy to use charging base; good suction. Very handy for minor issues and hard to reach places. Pleased with product. Surprisingly I most often use this to capture flies and bugs in the windows when it is the season.

Don’t let its low price fool you. It is extremely powerful and picks up small pieces as well as larger pieces with ease. This is a replacement for me for one that I’ve had for close to 20 years. The workmanship and quality is superior to the higher priced Dustbusters. So you even save money.

Love this thing! It handles all the jobs I throw at it. My GF has one and she loves hers so I had to get one and I love mine too! Has great suction and is a quality product.

I like the long extendable pickup and overall sucking power. Not a big fan of the counter-top charge base (I would have preferred a wall mount). But after 3.5 years of light-duty use (under five minutes run time each week) my CHV1410L vacuum's battery died. Unfortunately the battery is NOT a user-replaceable item. That's a shame because the vacuum still looks new. And it would be wasteful to toss it in the trash just because Black & Decker didn't design this appliance so we could change the battery pack. For this reason the vacuum only gets 3 stars from me. Fortunately I have many years experience working on electronic equipment. I have rebuilt a few lithium battery packs too. So I decided to replace my vacuum's batteries. This is not a project for the average person, so skip this idea if you are not familiar with lithium battery safety. I disassembled the vacuum by removing six screws. Once inside I found that the battery pack can be removed by unplugging a connector. As luck would have it, the battery pack's plastic case is held together by two plastic tabs that snap apart. Inside the case are four (4) 18650 size lithium batteries and the cell charge protection circuit board. The rebuilding process was straight forward. I used four 18650 high current flat top cells (rated 20A continuous operation). These type of cells are found in some high capacity vaping devices. While soldering the cells it is critical to avoid overheating them. I used a temperature controlled iron, added flux, and worked fast to minimize the heat dwell time. The cells I used came from Amazon, but the vendor removed the listing shortly after I purchased them (so I'm unable to provide a link). I don't intend this review to be a battery rebuilding instructable. Instead, I'm here to say that the battery will probably last 3-4 years and then your vacuum will become another electronic landfill waste item. This problem isn't limited to this product, but such a shame that manufacturers don't do more to break us from modern society's throw-away habits. EDIT Dec-12-2022: It's been many years since I wrote my original review. Just wanted to come back and report that I'm still using the Black & Decker cordless vacuum, which is nearly 10 years old. The rebuilt battery pack is still going strong too. Perhaps I'll return in another five years and report similar good news. :)

I love this Dust Buster ordered it as the 12 volt model which I already have seems to be no longer available. The only problem when it arrived was that it came with a USA/Canada two prong charger base and not the three pin which we use here in the UK, so I had to purchase the adapter suitable for USA/Canada appliances.

The use of the vacuum cleaner is simple. It is light weight and do a nice job. The charging is also easy.

This light weight ( only 3 lbs ) machine is very handy! I love that it has a pull out extended nozzle and little brush attachment that is attached so you will never lose its parts! It has decent suction and I mostly use it to vac my bedside "furry" carpets, dust bunnies and I use it a lot in the kitchen to suck up coffee grounds or crumbs. It is super easy to clean and love the reusable washable filter! One thing I have noticed is that when it is sitting on its charger the solid blue light ( for some models it is a red light) doesn't always come on which means it is not charging so I have to fiddle with it a bit. I haven't had it for very long so I will update in 6 months if there are any more pros/cons. **UPDATE JAN 7, 2025** I have learned that the "blue" light is on only when the vac needs to be charged and shuts off when fully charged! It lasts about 45 mins to 1 hour. Enough time for my daily clean to vac crumbs/coffee grounds in the kitchen, hair shed on the bathroom floor, vac all 10 area or runner rugs in my 7 bedroom house, to vac the exterior and interior filters on my air purifier and pine needles off my front porch. I love that it has its own charging base because it is always fully charged and ready to go! I wish my upright vac and my shop vac had this level of suction and ease of cleaning. I have not yet had to replace the disposable filter because it is so simple to clean out. I use an old toothbrush to simply brush it clean and the reusable filter catches most of the debris before it gets to the replaceable one. I literally use this every day, it even sucks up dust! It is by far my favourite addition to my cleaning tools and I have no idea how I lived without it at this point! (( I have been a professional cleaner on and off since the mid 80's)) I highly recommend this hand vac! I will review again if anything changes such as longevity! I hope it lasts for many years, it feels very durable! UPDATE Oct 22, 2025 Still working as new and these filters fit perfectly !
