Kevin's Kwanzaa (Cloverleaf Books ™ ― Fall and Winter Holidays)

I found this book very helpful in telling the story of Kwanzaa. It had fun facts that helped to add value and information to a storyline. A little glossary in the back. Wish it had added info about the candle order and the words. Also a pronunciation keys. But all in all I still give this 5 stars because my toddler didn’t want to read it, but wound up enjoying it.

Many have used this delightful book about the explanation of Kwanzaa. Very straightforward and cheerful.

I needed some new Kwanzaa books for my class, and this book stood out. I am so glad I chose it. It is fun and informative. I now want a complete set of Cloverleaf books for school.

Kevin's Kwanzaa shows the reader how many families celebrate Kwanzaa. For example, my family spend months getting ready for Kwanzaa, like Kevin does in the book. Also, the story illustrates how to set up a Kwanzaa display, such as placing a mat down first before the other symbols. The author provides enrichment materials too, such as a drum making activity, a glossary, and websites of resources. Moreover, the principles are presented in the side bars of the publication, but there is a big disconnect between the English meaning of words and the Kiswahili words of the holiday, an essential element of Kwanzaa, when the principles are referenced in the story. In other words, the book is written is such a manner that it deemphasizes the East African Language associated with Kwanzaa.

I purchased this to use in a preschool classroom. A little too wordy for my kids' attention spans, but it was a cute book with lots of age appropriate info about Kwanzaa.

I like how the book tell a story of a family getting to know about one another and learning different languages at the same time. This book show readers how a person of African American descent celebrate their holiday.

Absolutely beautiful book. My son is so excited about celebrating Kwanzaa for the first time. This book created the excitement for both of us!!
