Action Series Jack Plate 6 inch setback

This is something my boat has needed for some time, since I could not mount the outboard high enough to get the ventilation plate out of the water on plane, causing excess drag and consequently less fuel efficiency. I purchased the 6" setback Action Series model, which is recommended for my 20' center console. The maximum lift on the jack plate is 6 inches. The install was very easy as long as you have the means (such as a rented automotive engine lift) to lift the outboard (actually, I used a chain over the bucket of the frontloader on my tractor). There is no need to disconnect any cables or lines to the outboard, since you only need to move it back 8-10" from the stern. The hydraulic pump is mounted within the jack plate itself, simplifying the installation, since there is no need to find a place to mount the pump inside the boat, or for drilling of holes for hydraulic lines. One 3/4" hole on the side of the splash well for a pass-thru grommet for the wire is all it took. It comes with all the cabling you're likely to need, plus the fuses, relays, and up/down switch, all hooked up with waterproof Deutsch connectors. My one-man install took about two hours. I will have the boat back on the water next month and will comment on it's performance then.

My boat came with this when I bought it new and this has been nothing but a constant thorn in my side. I've replaced the pump 3 times at my own expense - they did not warranty it. Often gets stuck in the down position because it requires constant lubrication - about every 3 to 4 times you take your boat out you need to lube it. Even when properly greased I often have to slow down (or idle) to raise and lower the plate. Also the Bob's stabilizer plate that came with my boat (and supposedly compliments the jack plate) constantly vibrates loose no matter how much tightening, lock-tight and 5200 I throw at it. It's developed a huge crack and I've since removed it off my boat so I don't ruin the lower unit and prop. Just like the jack plate they did not warranty the stabilzer.
