(2-LP set) Dark Magus was recorded at Carnegie Hall in 1974 but went unreleased until 1977, when it was put out in Japan only. As a result, these stunning live recordings have been incredibly hard to find on vinyl, until now. These are some of the heaviest, and headiest, tracks Davis ever cut, and his band is in top form. Absolutely classic and essential electric jazz fusion from the dude that invented the genre. Reissued on 180 gram vinyl in a gatefold jacket.

Doom Jazz Perfection
The shipping from Amazon was a disaster but I won’t take that into account when reviewing this brilliant reprint. I like to call this phase in Miles’ career doom jazz and this is its finest example. The percussion is a demonic funk laying the ground work for searing lead solos by a brilliant collection of musicians. Some of the best improvisation I’ve ever heard. This pressing is well done with strong bass and clear yet not overly bright highs. The inner sleeves are not great but you can easily replace those. If you like this album check out Agharta and Live evil which are almost as good.

Great vinyl release.
Great sounding release on vinyl, much better than the original CD version I bought back when these live Miles albums were being re-issued. I would say that this particular period of Miles is better represented by the albums “Agharta” and “Pangea,” if only because the guests Miles brought along for this set don’t always fit in as seamlessly with the working band from this time. Still, recommend.

Great Vinyl live double album from Miles Davis
Brilliant live set by Miles and band from 1974 at the height of his jazz fusion mastery. If you admire the complexity and musicianship of jazz fusion generally, there is no one better than Miles Davis.

Wonderful sounding Remaster !!
Just bought this, hoping beyond hope to replace my old poor-sounding original CDs and am delighted this is very significantly better sound quality, both in frequency response and stereo image. It would appear they went back to the original master tapes rather than using a much reworked tape by Teo Macero, whose work for me is always a BIG downgrade. We can only hope they also now do the same with Agharta and Pangea .... please !!

Der Jazz-Magier
Miles Davis hat den Jazz auf eine andere Ebene transformiert. Ich höre seine Musik z. B. beim Lesen und kann dann prima entspannen.
