What does "white box" mean?

It was probably removed from a kit, Like a 5D mark III and 24-105 kit. It will not have the retail package that you would see if you bought the lens off of the shelf by itself.

Is this lens better for weddings or the tamron sp 24-70mm f/2.8 di vc usd, canon? trying to see which one i should buy.

This lens has a longer zoom range so you an get tighter shots during the ceremony, which is a plus. The benefit of the 24-70 f2.8 is the wider aperture, which is obviously good for portraits. But hopefully you'd be using a prime lens with an even wider aperture for portraits anyway. This is a great lens!

Would using this lens on a crop sensor body similar to a 70 to 200mm f4l on a full frame body

Your "field of view" with this lens on a crop sensor will be equivalent to a 38-168 lens on a full frame sensorYour "Aperture" on this lens would be the equivalent of a 6.4 aperture on a full frame sensorOther than that, it behaves like a 24-105mm lens in terms of how it distorts lines whether it is on a full frame or cropped sensor, although you will hit more of the "sweet spot" on a cropped sensor.

For those who ordered a Canon 24-105mm Lens and it was shipped in a white box, did you receive a warranty? And what store did you make your purchase?

This is way later, but I wanted to add this to this question in case others are still concerned. I was worried about this when I was sent a lens and the listing doesn't say it is a white box.
