Pencil sharpener is fine, but I received it with the magnet broken off the sharpener. I was able to super glue it and it works fine, though.

All of these that I've owned have been excellent sharpeners - I'd give five stars for sharpening ability - which is why I continue to buy them.However, the fact that I need to keep replacing them is the reason I can only give the product three stars overall.Over the course of a year or so these always start to develop hairline cracks that start in the top rim of the little bin that collects the shavings. The cracks start there because the plastic is thinner in that upper rim, because it's the part that's threaded to let the top (the part that has the sharpener) screw into it. The cracks don't usually get so bad that they extend down further into the little bin where the plastic is thicker - but when enough cracks have developed at the rim then the top part no longer screws on securely, and then it's time for a new one.You may be asking why I continue to buy the same product, when I know it will only last a year or so. Well that's because this has the best sharpener I've found - and I'm picky about sharpeners! I work in a design office and need to sharpen a lot of pencils, including colored pencils with those frustrating leads that are so soft that they break into pieces if sharpened with a sharpener that catches on them and puts too much torque on the lead. Really you're not supposed to sharpen those colored pencils with this type of sharpener at all - you're supposed to shave them with an x-acto knife by hand - but I don't have the patience for it, so this is the best compromise. This sharpener has an almost 100% success rate at not breaking my pencil leads or getting chunks of lead stuck in it.I love the small size and the magnet. I keep this on the front of a file cabinet drawer, or stuck to a shelf bracket, so it's always within arm's reach - except when others borrow it, and they do that a lot, for the reasons in my previous paragraph.The lid on this sharpener can also be rotated so that the sharpener's hole is closed, so that it won't lose its collected shavings when carried around in a bag. That's a feature that most of the other brands don't have.When it does start to sharpen less well, it's usually because it's gotten too full of shavings and they're pressing up against the sharpener part. Once that's dealt with performance usually returns to excellent.For something that's used as much as I use this sharpener, and not particularly expensive, I can live with replacing it on a yearly basis.But if they could figure out how to make this last twice as long (thicker plastic? different formulation of plastic?) I'd gladly pay twice as much for it.

as soon as I took it out of the package the magnet fell off. Entire reason I purchased this was because it had a magnet.

Really flimsy, doesn't sharpen well. Get a Staedtler
