Its plot is wonderfully opaque, its characters and settings perfect and consistent, and it's thrilling, suspenseful and utterly believable. My only gripe with this book as with all of Follett's novels is that the editors don't know when to use further or farther, among other grammatical errors. Please hire a good editor!! Other than that, you would be a fool of you love historical fiction and you don't read this book. Review: Intriguing story - but a bit of a contrived ending - I enjoyed this book in many ways, although it tended to be a bit wordy. But, with a bit of fastforwarding it was exciting and had more than a few twists and turns. Mr. Follett manages to bring the complexity of the Middle East, and the dangers of trying to maneuver through its political and theological landscape, to the written pages of this novel. Interestingly he is able to make a ruthless assassin somewhat likable, and illuminates a world where people matter far less than politics, revenge and hate. The main focus of the book is a race to nuclear weapons between Israel and islamists in Egypt. With a creative Mossad agent, some luck, assistance from friends, and old debts called in, the Israeli's are well on their way to hijacking a shipment of nuclear fuel. A chance encounter blows the cover of the Mossad agent, and the story becomes a race of time and trial of wits. A twist is thrown in here which I won't disclose, but it adds intrigue and intensity to the story. It also explains the title, which puzzled me until that point. The story is told from the perspective of the Israelis, but it is not without balance, and it clearly shows the politics and background of many of the issues we faced then, and now, in that volatile part of the world. The only real weakness of the book was the final showdown which was somewhat improbable, but the rest of the book was full of intrigue, suspense, cleverness and plain good storytelling and it easily overcame the one small weakness of the end.

Great thriller. Great plot line.
As always, Ken Follett delivers an interesting and engaging story with twists and turns. May or may not be based on facts or stories about the early days of Israel’s existence. Entertaining though.

Not One Of Follett’s Best
As a major Ken Follett fan, for me to say this one was disappointing is an understatement. First, it was at least 1/3 longer than necessary. Not the least of the disappointments was that it couldn’t decide whether or not it was a spy thriller or a Hallmark movie - with a plot almost as predictable as a Hallmark movie. In the novel, the Arabs are trying to build a nuclear bomb. Israel hears of it and plots to steal enough plutonium to build one of their own as a bargaining child. Throw in an Arab-ancestry girl whose university professor father’s idealism causes him to treat his daughter as a household possession and servant, and stir in the fact that the daughter falls almost instantly in love with an Israeli intelligence officer plotting to steal the plutonium, mix in one too many coincidences of former students at the university together who all wind up being agents for their own countries, and you have a rather predictable, rather dull spy “thriller.”. He’s written far better, far more enjoyable books. It was a moderately good read, but certainly not the thriller I was expecting.

Follett me, strap in buckle up and enjoy the ride! Highly recommend.
If your after an entertaining thriller this delivers this is a fun read! Follett to the uninitiated is a great story teller with a great writing style one of the greats in our time. After reading some of he more popular books I have been cautious to read his other novels. But in truth I have not been disappointed. This certainly delivered on all points. I must say in response to a couple of poor reviews on probability at the end you'd be surprised and history has shown in the past how sometimes things seemed totally unreal like what this story is based on an impossible heist that actually took place. I know for a fact from my background where breaches in security through dismissal of proper threat assessment or procedures due to extenuating circumstances have occurred by highly skilled professionals through arrogance in superiority of their skills. Further, I have seen things as I'm sure at some point other people may have, where they have witnessed something extraordinary or stranger than fiction. So in closing although it may push the envelop it certainly does not detract from the story and delivers one excellent read. Fully recommend worthy of a read!

Ken Follett has out done himself
4 intelligence agencies after one large project. The catering of material will permanently change the make up of the Middle East. Set in 1968, the most daring of undertaking is happening. I forgot how great a writer Ken Follett is. Glad to be back. Enjoy

Fascinating and Difficult
This book was an absolute nail biter. I loved that there was a love story, And that the love story had a happy ending. There were many agents , agency,, countries, and parties within countries, It was difficult to keep track of all the characters unless one took notes which I recommend. who are engaged in this spy versus spy versus spy thriller. It was difficult to keep track of all the characters unless 1 took notes which I recommend.

This story set in the 1960s was fascinating from the start. Allegedly based on true events it moved at a cracking pace. I was a boy of 14 when these events were happening and I remember the news reports about Middle East tensions and the conflicts between Israel and Egypt. Having some knowledge of the background to this story made it even more interesting for me. I read the book fairly quickly as I couldn't put it down. Master storyteller Ken Follett kept me entertained from start to finish.

This book, like the most from Ken Follet, is a very exciting triller. It is all about a spy story about a spy who wants to get the atomc bomb for Israel. As an foreign reader (I'm italian), I suggest this book also for the abilitation of WordWise which helps a lot. The book itself is very easy to read -there are no long and difficult description, but I found it tricky several pages where a ship is described (and I didn't know many nouns about ships).

One more very well written Follett story. I am writing this review 48 hours after completing the book and my problem has been choosing my next book, Triple was so exciting that I don't want any less. I am also surprised that after this many hours I can't get over the story. Perfect book if you want to get involved in an exciting and fun story.

The threads of this story wrap themselves into a complicated and intricate knot. The ending was a bit abrupt but fitting.
