This is a great series and was recommended to me for my 4th grade son. The illustrations are fantastic and the stories may be timeless, but this is not a 4th grade reading level. My son would have loved this in 2nd grade. He may still love this now, but it is well below his age range at this point. I would put this at a 6-7 year old level. There is only a paragraph or so of words on each alternating page, the rest being illustrations. I have 2 three year olds, so we will still get plenty of use from these books, but I missed my window on my oldest boy and didn’t want someone else to not know.

After searching for almost a year for a series that would hold my son's attention and motivate him to read independently we found it in Billy and Blaze! For early readers who like non-fiction, the outdoors, and adventure this is an ideal starting place to build confidence while genuinely enjoying reading a good story.

I ordered this series for my grandson. He is a new reader and excited to be able to read chapter books. This series is perfect for little boys! Billy gets a horse and they become best friends. Billy and Blaze find themselves on many adventures!!!

My 8 year old son had yet to be really interested in any book that he was given to read independently. This series changed that- they are interesting storylines that have enough repeating words, yet not too basic or dumbed down. The illustrations are beautiful. These stories have really helped his fluency and his desire to read. This was the first time I’ve ever seen him read more than what was assigned.

I loved these books as a kid, and now my kids get to enjoy them too!

Bought this for my grandson for Christmas. Has always been a favorite in my library. Nothing compares to the art and compelling stories of Billy and his beloved horses. We love these books!!

These were some of my very favorite books when I was little. I just purchased for my 11 and seven-year-old. We read three of them tonight and kids loved them. The illustrations are all black and white but absolutely beautiful. Just as good as I remember.

Purchased this set after evaluating the first book in the series. The 7 year old grandson has loved additional books and is able read them on his own. Wonderful illustrations drawn by the author that hold attention. Highly recommend.

Every page of this book is filled with beautiful black and white illustrations that really bring the stories to life. My son often asks me to read these to him, and I was so impressed that I bought a set for my granddaughters as well. The stories are engaging, and perfect for family reading - a delightful way to enjoy time together. Worth the cost to add to a family library.

Every young boy should read this series! What a classic. A little boy and his horse who go through so much together. Billy is such a kind & selfless little boy. My son really admires and looks up to Billy.

My son loves reading these with me to strengthen his reading skills. They are fun stories about a boy and his horse and their adventures together.

Childhood favorite. Wanted my own set so more children can enjoy them as much as I did as a child. For all those who love animals and especially horses.
