Woodstock D2844 Mortising Chisel, 3/4-Inch

I used this to make a number of 3:4” by 3” mortises at 3/8” deep in red oak. The results were quite satisfactory.

Great Chisel for mortising. Have no issues with this chisel whatsoever. Does get clogged up at times, so have to go slower at times, but fits nicely into the square notches. Nice and tight corners. Saves from having to clean out the corners with a hand chisel.

So I got this for a project that I was working on, for the price I wasn’t expecting something incredible for this price, but I was at least expecting some thing that would work. The bitch came so dull that it will not even make a single hole in that hole is burnt to the extent I was worried about a fire starting in my shop. It’s possible I just got a bad bit but unfortunately, by the time I got to the point on my project to use it, I was beyond the return window. I would have been willing to exchange it and hopefully get one that functions like the other bits I have for my mortiser, but like I said before I was outside the return window.

Don't expect clean holes out of the box, but with significant re-grinding and sharpening it works okay. I used this with a 1 hp mortise, and it had enough power to make 3/4" mortises.

The jokes on me! I accidentally order 2 in stead of 1 chisel... what’s funny is with this quality i will never need the second one! Oh well, maybe a gift?

This thing was a tank. Over 150 holes and still asking for more. Great buy!!!!!
