A must if you’re thinking about trying a top bar hive.
Very informative. Well written and a wealth of great information. If you’re thinking about tying your luck at top bar hives, this is a must.

This was a good read, and fairly easy to follow
This was a good read, and fairly easy to follow. Initially converting the measurements from mm to inches was a chore, but a few quick notes in the book and I was set. I am a fairly new beekeeper and intend to do the best I can to "get out of the bees' way" and let them do what they do best, as well as avoid using toxic chemicals to manage pests. To this end, I'm very much in Phil Chandler's camp and making small design adjustments to the hive could better enable the bees to keep themselves healthy. Chandler is constantly tinkering with/inventing hive components to be more natural, not more technological. He is a student of nature, and uses Biomimicry to try to bring his designs closer to emulate the natural balance that was working for thousands of years before man started introducing synthetic solutions.

good building guide
I am a total novice, and I am building my first TBH and I found this to be a very informative. I have almost completed my hive and recommend buying Balanced beekeeping II as well

Quick and helpful read to start out, especially the construction portions.
I liked this book, especially the instructions and custom design options he provides in this book, such clever and great ideas.

After I bought the first one The Barefoot Beekeeper, I was hook and bought the other two. If your interest is the survival and well being of the bees, this are your guiding manuals.

Books I & II could have been one book
I just wanted to know how to build and then manage a top bar hive. Too much other filler about bees and opinions for my taste.

Exhaustive but no building instructions inside.

The most humane way to keep bees.
This is the book I would recommend to you if you are considering keeping bees, as it is the most natural and kind way to keep them. His Royal Highness Prince Charles has three top bar hives, and he knows what he’s talking about. Dorcas
