Tried on a dozen different boots, these are perfect!
I tried on over a dozen pairs of boots at REI intending to buy some, but even with prices ranging over $200 I was highly disappointed. I loved the fit of Salomons, but they only had a really heavy duty boot and a very light boot. I came home and did some research and found these listed as a light backpacking boot… exactly what I was looking for, something light enough for day hikes, but good enough for some backpacking. I took the chance and ordered them knowing that I liked the fit of the Salomons. I love them! The styling is great, the fit is great, and they are lightweight for backpacking boot. I am impressed by the lacing system that allows you to keep the bottom part of the laces looser and tighten up the ankle nicely. Also, the Salomons are the only boot I tried on that actually have a nice footbed. All of the other brands I would have had to put in a Superfeet insole. I may do that with these, but so far it feels like they don't need it.There was a little confusion on the color of these boots. Swamp sounds like it would be green, and some google searching led me to photos of this boot that looked greenish. The Amazon photo is accurate though, it's definitely more of a grayish color, which is what I was hoping for.

Great Boots
I just started hiking so I read reviews & saw reviews on youtube, Prior to my Mt. Whitney hike, I took these boots out for a 2 hour hike and wore them for approx 1 hour while i helped my mom move. I know, I should have broken them in more but i ran out of time. I summited Mt. Whitney in these. Hiked for three days total, with a pack weighing approx 30 lbs. Not the lightest boots out there, but light for high durable & waterproof hiking boots. I never felt as though I was going to twist my ankle, very sturdy. Two complaints, 1.) I should have purchased a 3/4 top, because my achilles heel became sore, but to my surprise no blisters (wore wool socks), 2.) Weight - There are lighter boots that will perform just as well in most hiking scenarios, so unless you are hiking in some extremely wet & rocky terrain, can get away with a lighter boot. Would I buy them again? Yes, but 3/4 quarter top. Paid a little over $100 on sale. BTW I have wide feet and these boots fit just right. Ran true to size, but remember you will be wearing wool socks.

Great boot that will last years!
I grew up in boy scouts doing lots of hiking and backpacking and always used hiking boots back then. After high school I went hiking less, and when I did I just used my tennis shoes as none of the hikes were that difficult. When I bought these I was getting ready for day hike of Mt. Whitney. I got these about a month before my hike and had the opportunity to used them in the Sierras north of Yosemite. I only wore them one day before I did my first hike with them. That first hike was an 6 hour hike off trail up to Mt. Emma on steep slopes with lots of scree. I just wore my normal cotton socks and the boots worked great, no blisters.I've since used them a lot more and they're great every time. I just used them on Wildrose Peak in Death Valley where we had to do some hiking through 2 feet of snow. They provided great traction and my feet stayed dry.My favorite part of these is they are easy to lace up with the hooks on the side and easy to unlace and slip off at the end of the day.

Used to regard as excellent light boots
A friend in the military recommended Salomon to me when I was looking for boots or shoes with excellent ankle support - I tore up both ankles in high school and one or the other since. Living in the woods, the opportunities for ankle-turning are excellent. I tried these and they've really done the job. One great strength is you can adjust the lacing for different tensions between the lower part and the upper part as the lace is firmly held by the large metal tab about two-thirds of the way up. My flat feet prefer a firm but not tight hold around the arch while my ankles want it as tight as it can be without hindering circulation. The GTXs handle this better than any other shoes or boots I've tried, including military boots going back to the old jungle boots on up to the present issue (former Marine, former Soldier). The tread lugs are large enough to grip but separated enough that slush, snow, and mud are easily shed so the grip is maintained. Traction on wet surfaces, such as rocks, is good. My ankles? I used to turn them walking across the yard. Now when I misstep, I can feel the ankles being firmly supported and I've had no painful incidents. One caution: the laces are slick which results in a willingness to become loose around the knot - double-knotting and tucking the lace loops into the boot has helped this. I've worn them for several months now and am very happy. Highly recommended.***Edit*** All the above was true, until the rubber sole began disintegrating. While the ankle support remains firm, on both shoes the heels and forward soles have lost rubber, exposing the underlying plastic base. There is a noticeable squeak when walking from both shoes. I've used these on house floors, yards, some sand and stone, some forests, but not under heavy loads nor particularly sharp terrain (e.g., hard lava fields). I'm now looking for other shoes.

Amazing boot, especially for narrow feet
I love these shoes, this is my second pair of the exact same thing. They would have lasted longer accept I got them soaking wet and they stayed wet for 2 days before I was able to properly dry them and then once dried started to smell, when worn. HOWEVER!!!! they were coming up on almost 2 years old so it's definitely not the shoes fault abut the smell. I have a narrow foot and these have great arch support and fit me extremely well. I wear them almost every day on construction sites, kicking things and dragging them through the mud, climbing up and down ladders, they are extremely light and surprisingly warm for being a relatively light boot. Also the have pretty much no break in time they feel good from the first time you wear them. I really can't say enough good things about this but I think I bought the first pair in person at a store and was able to try them on and that's how I realized the great fit.

amazing
Amazing shoe.Fit comfortably from day 1 and now after 3 weeks wearing cannot be faulted in any way.Would be nice if it came with a spare set of laces as you tends to pull hard to get it secure around the ankle but that would be a generous bonus.

Ottimi.
