Kindness: A Treasury of Buddhist Wisdom for Children and Parents

I had read an article written by the author, Susan Conover so decided to order this book. ALL I CAN SAY IS "BUY IT"! Everyone should read this book. The result would be a KINDER world.

There are stories in this we have read in other books (like "I Once was a Monkey" and "Buddha at Bedtime") but it is enjoyable to hear them told slightly differently. I like the writing style and delivery. There aren't many pictures and the language/story is more complex which is fine for my daughter (age 8). If your child is younger I would get Buddha at Bedtime as that is geared to a younger audience.

Wow! This is a fantastic collection of Buddhist stories. My 6-year-old daughter and I love picking out a story or two to read and discuss each night. I've even found stories that I can use in my therapy practice.

First I used this book with my children as we learned about different religions and spiritual views. As they got older we visited it again because these Buddhist stories are applicable to so many situations in life regardless of your views on God, theist, or atheist.Now as a religious education teacher of younger people at the Unitarian Universalist fellowship I use this book extensively when teaching about buddhism, kindness, compassion and many other concepts. Well written and engaging for all ages, but best for elementary school age children. My middle schoolers still love the stories.

This is the second Buddhism-for-kids book my 9 year old and I have read together and it is definitely a keeper. The stories are short and interesting--really well edited so that you don't have to dig for the moral, but at the same time you don't feel like your being bashed over the head with the lesson (hmm, not a very Buddhist analogy there). It is a beautifully designed book as well. We're not yet through it all, but I know this is one we will re-read together.

I got this book for my daughter for Christmas and she LOVES it! We have been reading and re-reading the stories almost nightly. It's a wonderful read-aloud and a great introduction to the values of love and kindness. It has stories that one can ponder, and re-read, with messages applicable to both children and adults. Love and Kindness are values that cross religious boarders.

This is a wonderful book and well designed. It is perfect for a short story time with a discussion of meaning. Many of the stories are classic Buddhist tales. Each story has a short saying in between it which come to have their own value. Whether you would like to introduce your child to Buddhism or simple wish to have a vehicle with which to discuss life and values, this is a quality investment.

What an absolute treasure! Easy to read and wonderfully illustrated. A beautiful collection of stories with timeless lessons appropriate for all ages. I haven't been able to put this book down and constantly go back to it for new insight. Each read bring fresh perspective. A must have for every open mind!

This is a lovely, quality book with beautiful illustrations. I enjoy reading it myself, but my children do not seem too interested by it. Only a few stories captured my 8 year son attention. My 12 year old daughter is a little more interested. I will persevere though as I feel it makes capitalist children think in a different way!

The stories are so beautifully written and speak to the children's souls. No need to point out the moral of each story - it is intrinsic to the tale.
