It's performed well and continues to provide a good quality distilled water (see below) with regular maintenance. Suggestions (lessons learned) 1) Do not run it dry. i.e. Do not let it run until the automatic shutoff turns it off. It takes roughly 4 hours to distill about 1 gal. of water. So, I have the unit on one of those inexpensive wall outlet timers set to shut it off after about 3 1/2 hours. This way the 'minerals & impurities' do not get \"burnt on\" the bottom so it's easier to clean and doesn't 'pit' the stainless steel. Personally, I disconnect the power cord from the wall timer to the unit as soon as I notice it has shut off. [Suggest you experiment with the 'time' if you have \"Hard\" water. You may want to shorten the time to 3 hours, producing less distilled water but 'saving' the units bottom from being as built up.] 2) After the distiller has cooled for at least 30 to 45 minutes, disconnect the plug from the upper to the lower unit, take off the condensing unit (top) with care as hot steam may still come out and hot water clinging to the unit will 'spill off' as soon as you tilt it. Set the top it aside and pour the leftover water from the distilling unit (bottom). Carefully because it will still be hot, wipe out both top and bottom with a soft cloth or paper towel. Take care when wiping off the upper unit being careful around the vent cover that the water vapor goes through to the condensing coil. Be sure to gently wipe off the soft seal on the top unit to keep it clean. Set both parts (top & bottom) on a towel or over the edge of a sink to dry being careful not to ding or damage the edges. Part of the reason for allowing the units (top & bottom) to dry at this point is to let them cool. If you are in a hurry to produce another 'batch' of distilled water, I suggest you let the unit cool for at least 15 to 20 minutes before proceeding. 3) Mix a couple ounces of vinegar with a little water and using a soft cloth or paper towel, wipe off the inside of the upper and lower unit with the vinegar & water mixture. Pour the remaining mixture out and rinse with tap water then wipe the inside with a damp soft cloth or paper towel. I usually lightly rinse it again just to be safe but that's \"Belt & Suspenders\" thinking. Set the units aside to dry or fill to run another batch. While I agree that this is not a 'laboratory Grade' distilling device but consider it a good quality 'Home Use' distiller which should produce reduced levels of 'harmful' contaminants from tap water when properly used. Even though the unit is as loud as an evaporative humidifier when operating, I find this Vevor Tabletop Water Distiller well this worth the money, but it does require care to maintain it so it will last. My most important piece of advice is do not let it run 'dry' and clean it with a vinegar or ascorbic acid and water mix at a minimum of every other use. Addendum I noticed a few negative reviews questioning the quality of the 'distilled water' produced by this unit, so I thought I'd add some thoughts and observations for those interested. There are many considerations that impact \"what kind/level of distilled water\" you need for your proposed use. First, there are different levels ('kinds') of \"Distilled\" water. No simple, single stage, countertop distilling unit will produce 'Technical or Laboratory Grade' distilled water, especially at this price. Filtering or distilling water for 'Human Consumption' is quite different than filtering water to produce water for a marine reef aquarium or use in a laboratory. Water processed in typical water plants for 'Human Consumption', often has certain chemicals added intentionally and/or inadvertently which are considered beneficial to humans. Chemicals such as Calcium, Potassium, Molybdenum and Magnesium are required by humans to stay healthy. In many areas Fluoride is added to \"promote stronger teeth\" and reduce tooth decay. While small levels of lead and copper are considered safe for human consumption, even a small amount of copper in marine reef water can poison and kill a marine invertebrate ('coral') and small levels of either are usually considered unacceptable for most laboratory grade distilled water applications. [FWIW, most Technical Grade and especially ASTM Deionized water is harmful to drink or even get in your eyes.] So, if you're primary purpose is to produce drinking water or water for home humidifier, when properly used and maintained, this unit will provide a highly reduced level of a large majority of 'unhealthy contaminants' found in most USA produced 'tap water'. Personally, I produce two levels of filtered/distilled water for our home use. First, for our humidifiers, I filter our tap water through two different gravity fed filters that contain 'mixed bed ion' with activated charcoal filtration. (see attached photo) This lowers the percentage of mineral impurities and unnecessary chemicals not needed for use in a humidifier. Reduces the 'white dust', etc. you may see from using unfiltered water in a humidifier. Second, I also use the double filtered water in this distiller to produce water to add moisture to the output of an Oxygen Concentrate and CPAP. This distillation greatly reduces many secondary 'pollutants' not desired for inhalation such as chloride, sodium, nitrates and sulfates as well as helping to ensure that any microbial, fungi or viral microorganisms possibly present are killed. While some of these can be safely ingested, they can be hazardous when inhaled especially by someone with 'lung issues'. [For the 'purists', I also gravity drip, reverse flow feed the output of this distillation unit through a water quality ultraviolet (UV) sterilizer into a Nalgene container using medical grade tubing providing approximately 15 minutes UV Light contact time.] In reviews comparing results of before and after impurity levels from a Certified Laboratory, I would suggest: 1) A Certified Laboratory Test should also be performed on the store purchased 'distilled water' you're buying for a \"fair\" comparison to the performance of any distillation unit you are using. You may be surprised at the test results for distilled water you purchased at your local grocery store for a few dollars. You may also want to do a comparison with 'Nursery Water'. PS, be sure to include a 'Fluoride Level' test in Certified Laboratory results. 2) In looking at the water quality, before and after test results posted in some reviews, I theorize the 'after distilling' with a unit like this was possibly A) Not run as suggested 4 or 5 time (with the water produced discarded) prior to sending the produced distillate to a Certified Laboratory for testing. And very likely B) The unit tested had the \"tea bag' style activated charcoal filter installed. Probably, the 'Activated Charcoal' filter had not been pre-rinsed and 'washed' properly prior to use. For many years I was a Certified Water Plant Operator and have maintained marine reefs aquariums for decades which require stringent water parameters for the health of the invertebrates. So, I ran the following tests this weekend after probably 400+ uses of this unit. I don't have the test kit/equipment to run several other tests often run for drinking water such as the various polyethylenes, vinyl chlorides, cryptosporidium, Haloacetic acids, Barium, Beryllium, Cadmium, etc. These results are the findings for my water supply. My wife and I each have CPAP units, so we use distilled water every night in the humidifiers to keep our throat and nose from turning into the Sahara Desert. The going rate for a gallon of distilled water in the store has long been $1.49 until recently, and is now $1.69. We got sick and tired of buying gallons and gallons of containers constantly - having to deal with all the empty containers... etc. So we bought one of these to make our own distilled water. Being a data geek - I created a spreadsheet to track the number of KWH per batch of water. Our local power rate is just over 10 cents per KWH. Using a measuring unit plugged into the wall socket, I measure each usage and enter it into my spreadsheet. On average, I use just over 3 KWH per 1-gallon batch - which calculates out to around 31 cents! That is a HUGE savings per gallon! After a little more that 1 year - it ended up paying for itself! I am now at over $42 toward paying for itself a second time. That is a great ROI in my book - not to mention the complete elimination of buying tons of 1-gal containers at the store, which at times have been out of stock! The unit works perfectly, and I have had zero problems with it. It turns itself off when it's distilled almost all of the water each batch - so you don't have to keep your eye on it for fear of it melting down, or catching on fire. There is always a small level of water left at the bottom. One thing though... the plastic container provided to gather the distilled water...... is CRAP. First of all - it's PLASTIC. Second, it's too tall to fit under the spigot, and then you still have to pour its contents into some other container. Get rid of it. I found a MUCH better solution: Buy yourself some glass jugs (instead of plastic - to try and cut our ingestion of microplastics) and a length of 5/16\" silicone tubing, and have it drip into the containers. Both items are on desertcart as well. See my attached photos. We settled on 2 half gallon jugs per batch. They're lighter and easier to manage than full gallon jugs. I set my phone stop watch (around 2hrs and 15 min) when I start a batch, so I know when to switch over to the 2nd bottle so I don't loose a bunch of water. But if you don't want to have to switch bottles in the middle of the batch - full gallon bottles would certainly work just as well... and not require moving the tube to a second bottle. I am very happy with this purchase, and will buy another one when this one quits.... in fact, I might buy another one soon, just so I have another one ready to go! If you are dealing with the same issues we were - you won't be sorry with this purchase. Sure, you have to make your own distilled water, but it's very easy to do. It takes around 4 hours per batch. It's almost a \"set it and forget it\" operation. Also - the citric acid included works GREAT to disolve mineral deposits after using a few times. I bought a larger bag after using up the one included, and use it around every 3rd batch. Simply sprinkle around a cap full into the container and fill about an inch with warm water and let sit over night. Simple as that! I would first like to address the many reviews stating they couldn't get the pH over 8.5 or that they used a test strip. There is absolutely no reason to get water above a 8.0 rating; anything over that means it will taste bitter and could cause skin problems. While avoiding acidic water is important for health, the fastest way to alkalize your body is actually by eating lots of raw whole fruits and vegetables and avoiding animal products. You can also raise your pH by squeezing lemon into your water (which raises your pH but not the water’s pH). But that aside, water really should not be above 8.0; 7 is ideal. Secondly, test strips are not meant to measure the pH of water. Even those that say they can be used for water are only meant to be a guide and does not make the user an instant expert. If you want to test the pH of water with a strip, drink only water from one source for 24 hours (no eating or drinking except the water) and measure your urine on the strip every few hours. If it progressively shows more alkaline in the final 12 hours, you've got your answer. Any time you’re measuring pH, if your urine consistently 8 or above you may have a serious health condition, such as acidosis, and should see a medical professional; high pH in the urine could be a sign that your body is depleting your internal sources, such as bone, to balance the pH, which your body constantly strives to be between 6.5 & 7. In the a.m. it will be the most acidic and not a true indication of your body's health or the health of the water. So, don't test the first morning urine unless you want to raise your stress levels. Simple research will confirm what I've said here. So, back to my personal review of the product: My first choice is distilled because it removes every contaminate -- it's the re-creation of natural purification (before the atmosphere was toxic in some parts of the world). However, I currently travel a lot and it's inconvenient to keep buying gallons, or refill jugs at a machine (Reverse Osmosis was 2nd choice). So, having a lot of bug out gear, I began to wonder if just using my Sawyer water straw and filling gallons in my hotel room from tap would be acceptable. However, that is more for survival sources to remove bacteria and microbes, and doesn't diminish fluoride or do anything to raise the pH. So, I began to research and found pH On The Go. After researching how the filtration takes place I was interested to try it. Since I'm starting with tap water & there's no need to worry about killing microbes, I felt this would be the next best thing to Distilled and maybe even a step above in some aspects because of raising the pH and bringing the water closer to a structured or original form. I received these almost a week ago and haven't purchased a bottle of water since. I absolutely love the way the water tastes and smells and I can feel the pH level in my mouth, although I haven't actually used a gauge (but for me it's not necessary). I'm thrilled at how convenient and successful these little pouches are. It doesn't just taste better, it feels really good in my mouth. I process the water in one container, pour it into a 2nd 27 oz container and then refill the one with the pouch. I don't time it since it works quickly -- for me, about 15 minutes gets most the chlorine smell out, 20 min is golden, depending on how chlorinated your water source is. But I did try this is a 2 gallon decanter and with the little pouch it took more than 8 hours to get the smell out. I can only assume it has to do with the lack of circulation in that large amount of water. The little pouches are definitely best for smaller containers If I'm hiking, I just take the one container with the pouch and refill it as necessary (from drinking fountains or so forth). I haven't removed it from the container so far, just keep it in there with at least a little water to cover the pouch. I literally want to buy a set for everyone I know. For one thing, most people buy \"purified\" water and that is just tap water filtered through a charcoal filter to get the smell out, usually. You may as well drink tap and plug your nose. “Spring” water is not much better and the FDA only requires a small portion of the water to actually come from a spring, by that definition. I think this is an amazing product. I'm guessing that with regular use, I'll be able to tell when it's time to get a new pouch. But for now I'm keeping a rough estimate of how many gallons I'm using. Although that plastic is considered to be safe, it contains antimony, a metalloid element with toxic qualities, which leaches from PET. The rate of leakage increases with temperature and can yield unhealthy levels in bottles stored in higher temperature. Antimony can cause acute and chronic health issues, such as diarrhoea, vomiting, and stomach ulcers. Brominated compounds can also leach into PET bottles. They can irritate the skin, mucous membranes, and tissues. If you bear in mind that even though the levels of toxins leached from PET could be considered as on a safe level, they may accumulate in your system over a period of time becoming a serious health risk. The iSpring 7-Stage 75 GPD UV Ultra Violet Alkaline Mineral Reverse Osmosis Water System seemed to be the best offer on the market. It cleans your water from everything you need for a good price. I was not sure if I should order the system with or without the booster pump. I live in a big city and I thought the city water pressure should be strong enough to work with the system so I decided to go for the one without the booster pump. My buying experience. The order arrived quickly and before I even started installing the system, I received an e-mail from iSpring to thank for the purchase and to say that if the Feed Water Adapter (AFW) that taps into the cold water line did not fit my plumbing specifications, they would fully refund (shipping included) for the order of the AFWs that I needed. They included two links to AFWs which I could choose from. Once I ordered the AFW, I e-mailed iSpring customer service and almost instantly I was issued the full refund for my order! My installation experience. The installation of the system was easy. The package contained a very easy instruction with colour photos leading you through all the steps of the process. If you do everything as the instruction manual says, you will be fine. I did not have any problem at all, no leakage whatsoever. My surprise. Everything was fine but I noticed that my water tank stored only 2-2.5 litres of water. I wanted to use filtered water not only for drinking and cooking but also for washing fruits and vegetables and that volume of water was not acceptable for me. My contact with the customers service. I e-mailed customer service and they replied very quickly giving me a short check list. It was very easy to follow the instruction and give the system a check. The whole process took a couple of minutes. Further instructions made us come to a conclusion that my water pressure was below 45 psi and that was a problem. I needed a system with a booster pump. I was too optimistic thinking that my city water should be fine and I did not need the booster pump. Once we identified the problem, the iSpring customer service came with a solution. To make it easier for me and avoid possibly a bit complicated installation of the booster pump and its components on my existing system, they offered ordering a machine head with a booster pump factory installed. And here comes the best! As they understood that the water storage was of great inconvenience to me, they reduced the price of the machine head from 90 to 50 dollars! Since it had to be shipped from iSpring office in the United States, not the shop in the United Kingdom, where I live, that would generate some extra costs of shipping and the import tax. iSpring customer service offered me splitting the costs of shipping and the import tax! Solving the problem. My problem was solved. After installation the machine head with booster pump, the tank stores about 10 litres of water and that is what I need! I can hardly hear the pump working. The water pressure is very good and the tank fills up very quickly. The water tastes fantastic, much better than bottled water, no plastic aftertaste. My final thoughts. What else would you want from a customer service?! They could not do anything more or better! They are exceptionally kind, understanding, efficient, and professional! I kept coming back to iSpring. BEFORE YOU BUY: MEASURE YOUR WATER PRESSURE (PSI) AND TOTAL DISSOLVED SOLIDS (TDS/PPM) then contact iSpring and they’ll recommend the system optimized for your unique water issues. I purchased a ppm digital water meter for around $20 at plumbing supply store, ran my ‘cold’ sink water and wrote down my ppm. Install a water pressure gauge (psi gauge) which may require a plumber, or purchase a gauge with a female threaded end to connect to a garden hose or utility sink with a threaded faucet. Last resort is if you are on municipal water, call your city water department, provide your address and ask for the psi to your address, they’ll give you an ‘estimated’ psi range. Record your ‘static’ psi readings when no water is running in the building. A psi reading, when water is flowing, may result in a slightly lower reading (depending on how the building is plumbed). If you are in a multi-family dwelling, verify if you are on separate water meters, if not, try and take several readings at low water use times, such as early mornings before neighbors wake, then calculate the average psi. Call iSpring, give them your ppm and static psi readings. They will advise you on the correct system to meet your unique water ppm and psi readings. Low psi residences may require an iSpring system with a water pressure pump, whereas high psi residences may require a system with an iSpring factory preset pressure reducer. iSpring is engineered to provide optimum performance between 45-70 static psi. The closer you can get to 70 psi, without going over, the better the RO filter will work and last. iSpring provides 5-STAR product support. I called and spoke to Nick a customer support manager, a real U.S.A. based professionally trained tech support specialist who has the answers memorized and is not reading a script. Inside the shipping box flap is a QR code. I suggest you scan it and watch the highly produced installation video and use it often. Each installation step has individually wrapped corresponding parts with individual installation instruction booklets. Installation is fool-proof. When you install and begin cutting tubes, never cut with scissors, pilers, serrated blades or knife. Each locking clip has a tab, the tab must always face the tube and not fitting. I had no leaks first time out. Mount the filter metal manifold - with the 3 pre-filters - before you flush them, as flushing the system with water will add weight and make it difficult for one person to lift and mount it. I suggest getting some scrap 2”x4” lumber or brick pavers to rest the pre-filter canisters on while you mark your screw holes with your sharpie marker. Be certain to mount the bracket high enough to leave room below to remove the pre-filter canisters. Install mounting screws, check for fit, then place the system on a towel on the floor during the entire installation process to assure full view of all fittings and inspect for leaks. Hang the filter manifold as your last step, leave the tube slack and zip tie them out of the way. The 3 Pre-filter canister O-rings are loose fit into a groove and should be installed vertically into the manifold to prevent the O-rings from unseating while you hand tighten. Don’t lay the canisters down to install them. Once installed, stand the filter system on a towel on the floor, then begin the filter flush step as directed and watch for leaks. If leaks appear, use the wrench turning it slowly until the leak stops, then stop tightening. This prevents over tightening and leaking. iSpring systems are designed to operate in a maximum ambient temperature of 100 degrees F. For hot climates, I suggest purchasing 3M Company adhesive cupboard door stops. They are rubber pads with glue backing. Stick them on the inside of your frame so they contact the cupboard door and create a gap between your cupboard door and frame to allow air circulation. Hang a thermometer in the cupboard to be sure. After installing your iSpring system, the remineralization stage releases more minerals over time as it breaks-in, so your ppm will increase. Furthermore, your static water pressure (psi) has an inverse relation to remineralization. The higher the psi, the lower the minerals released. A psi close to 70 will increase system filtering, life of your RO filter and decrease waste water. CONCLUSION: From my experience: iSpring provides world-class product support and filtration system. My water system has no leaks, and is currently providing water, with minerals added, at 10 ppm.
