I have been using MEC 600 jr. reloaders for 51 years. This new Mark V is not the same quality as the original 600 Jr..I purchased this to reload .410 3" hulls as I already have a unit for 2 1/2" shells and I didn't want the hassle of switching my press from one length to another.The major problem is station 3, adding the powder, wad and shot.The rammer tube is of very soft metal and it will be damaged if you try to adjust it with anything but your fingers. If it's stuck and won't move, do not use any tools or it will crush!The tube is also the same length as the one on the 2 1/2" press, therefore it's too short.My load data calls for 50 pounds of wad pressure. MEC recommends no wad pressure, even though the gauge goes up to 120 pounds.When I adjusted it to 50 pounds, the drop tube fell out of the rammer tube. On return, the rammer tube caught the drop tube which flipped up the measure bar and bottles, snapping off the shot bottle and pouring it all over my reloading bench. MEC said they will not send me a new bottle because it's my fault for using wad pressure. Why have the feature if you can't use it?I made a rammer tube out of steel, 3/8" longer. Now I can use wad pressure and the tube won't collapse.Another problem is the wad fingers. The fingers aren't molded correctly and are short. They don't completely enter the top of the shell so the wad catches the edge upon entering. This tears the shell mouth and damages the wad. MEC is suppose to send a replacement, we shall see.(1 month later, no reply from MEC)Station 4 is poorly designed. The star crimper falls off if you bump it. It is held on the machine with a ball detent which isn't substantial enough. If you adjust it to make the crimp deeper, it sticks to the shell and pulls off. I took the crimper off my old press and installed it on this newreloader. One good thing is you can take old parts and install them on the Mark V.Buy an old 600 Jr. if you can find one. They are the best.
