Works as expected.

Loop is too small
The cup is too short and the loop is too small, you have to stick your fingers in the 218 degree sap to get it full enough to float a hydrometer.I ruined one of the wifes pot holders doing this, next year I'll use a heat resistant grill glove, but it's just one more thing to clean...

Test Cup Works Well
Affordable stainless steel test cup that works perfectly with a maple syrup hydrometer. Pretty basic and nothing fancy but it does the job. Fast delivery.

Get the 10" instead
It's a metal cup so it works but it's a little small. Kind of a pain to work with because with the displacement caused by the hydrometer you're going to have some spill over when you use it. Not fun when you're dealing with 200 degree sticky liquid. Can't really put less syrup in or the hydrometer will just sit on the bottom of the cup.Get the 10" version instead.

Fine if you need one
It works for what it is, just fine. But in fact, an amateur can do just fine without it by watching the syrup "boil up" in the final stage as it boils. So, if you operate a sugar shack professionally, you need one of these along with a syrup hydrometer to determine the optimum time to stop the boil. But if you are like me so that you only end up with a few gallons of maple syrup, you don't really need this item. Just my opinion.

Better than 'make do' cups...
Finally broke down and got one of these...over the years I've tried to 'make do' with other things, empty wine bottles, liquor bottles, canning jars, whatever...they all had deficits in use. This shouild do a great job, cutting back on spillage and allowing the hydrometer to float upright.
