A wonderful book! For Children or Adults- Personally I love the illustrations, and what better way to remember where you have been.....Toss aside the travel guides once they've been used... For wistful nostalgia, look no further.

Love San Francisco - nice book not worth the money though.

"This is San Francisco" is not a guide book - it's a classic factual kid's book (first published 1962 - so no TransAmerica Pyramid). It has a feel and layout similar to Babar Comes to America (Babar (Harry N. Abrams)) . As such it is as much a work of art as anything else. Indeed you could frame the pages and hang them on your wall. If you've ever been to San Fran, or just watched Bullitt (2 Disc Special Edition) [DVD] [1968 ], you'll feel you've visited every one of the locations on the book's 60 pages. From the spaced-out vibes of the Presidio, to the ducks hanging in a Chinatown shop window, to Fisherman's Wharf - you can practically smell the place. Captures the vibe - and this one is about the vibes.

Just delightful! Yes, it's several decades old with a few new updates, but it manages to convey the sense of "This is new! This is exciting!" of someone visiting San Francisco for the first time in 1962. This is true of many of M. Sasek's other books, though some of the later ones lack the fun of the earlier MCM graphics. I also recommend his Rome, Paris, Munich, and Way to the Moon. They are probably best suited for ages 6 and up, but adults love them, too.

Este "This is San Francisco" consta de uma coleção de 18 livros. Obs: Para quem gosta de ilustrações da década de 60/70 e de livros que tratam de lugares diferentes para se conhecer, o artista teve um olhar interessantíssimo dos lugares que retratou. E apesar de terem sido realizados no final da década de 50 até meados de 70, foram reeditados e quando algo está datado por exemplo, isto é mencionado.
