I think you'll find a lot of reflection from the IR illumination. You'll likely have to press it against the screen to see anything.

Can this monocular illuminate and enhance stars in the sky?

Yes it does enhance stars. If you look at a dark part of the sky you will be amazed at how many stars are there that you can't see with your naked eye or a regular telescope.

In daytime mode is the viewfinder color or black and white? And does it take color photos and video in the day?

Yes to all your questions . The color is pretty amazing , ok it's not pretty but it's still amazing ! You don't take the lens cap off during the day , there's a tiny pinhole in the cover and through that it still gets clear color images , you can even stream real time video to someone elses phone . Free upgrades are even available from Bushnell . Hope that helps .
