Good, but...
It was a good book, but I purchased it for my third grade classroom in hopes it would be something I could use in conjunction with our study of the Iditarod. While it provided great information, the tone of the text was geared toward a much younger audience. As my own third grader put it, it felt like reading Dora the Explorer... Everything was pointed out in a very obvious way. They reading level is fine for third grade, but based on how it reads it might go over better with a younger crowd.

Good Story
My son and I had to read this book together for his reading assignment. He seemed very engaged and couldn’t wait to hear what happened next. He was upset after reading Togo, that this book gave all the credit to Balto instead of Togo for saving the sick children in the 1925 Nome Serum Run. Other than that, this was a pretty good story. My son could really relate to the kids in the book and really is interested in reading more of Carole Marsh’s books.

As a teacher for 26 years, I used the Iditarod race for a teaching unit for many years. It was nice to have an easy to read book for my lower level learners in my high school classes. Other reviewers said that it was inaccurate. I couldn't find any issues with accuracy, but I'm only a fan, not a researcher. My students enjoyed it.

SCHOOL DISTRICT
I order Amazon for a public school district. This must be okay to recommend b/c I didn't hear any complaints (and believe me I would have.)

The books were informative and perfect for my 9 year old
I bought several books on the Iditarod and Dog teams since my kids were watching this in school. The books were informative and perfect for my 9 year old.

Fun for kids
I have not read this book (but will) so the review I am writing is via the grandkids I have given it to. A four year old girl and five year old boy both gave it rave reviews. It was my granddaughter's first chapter book and she is now hooked on longer and more complex books.
