MIXC 10 Pack Seed Starter Tray, 120Cell Stater Kit with Humidity Dome Green

This was my second time purchasing these because they are so versatile. The first two sets I purchased maybe 5 years ago came in both large and small size inserts, with the small ones being the size of a plug (a large thumb). Before I started using these, I had a terrible track record with growing anything from seed, but having a steady water supply from the tray and higher humidity instantly boosted my success rate and confidence. Now, I have totally upgraded my set up with heat mats, lights, professional trays, etc. and have excellent germination of even challenging seeds. But, I still use these MIXC trays for some plants. Why? They’re perfect for germinating a smaller number of seeds, particularly if they are larger (cells are larger than standard plugs, allowing you to grow plants in the tray longer, either skipping the need to transplant to an intermediate pot or delaying it until your plant is larger and less vulnerable to transplant shock) or have different germination requirements than other seeds. They also make keeping track of what you’re growing a lot easier. Instead of using stake-style labels, I use a single sticker label or piece of masking tape for the entire tray. Lastly, while these lack the heft and durability of my other trays, the original set I bought years ago have been surprisingly durable. No cracking or tearing, not even the ones I’ve left outside. The fact that the inner tray is clear, thin plastic makes it easy to see how roots are developing and you can gently push plants out by collapsing the cell from the bottom.

These trays are easy to assemble, and so helpful. Our seeds fit in the cups well. The dome keeps in the moisture well and warm inside, so our seedlings popped up very fast! I wasn’t expecting them grow so quickly honestly, and I started them maybe 2-3 weeks too early lol. For some of my plants, like carrots and squash, I’ll have to put them in a bigger container and it’s only been a week. The containers breath well at the bottom and you can allow them to self water once the grow their own roots by filling the tray up with water. And I like being able to pick up the clear trays to check on the root systems. The kids think that’s so cool.

These would be great to use if you expect to have to replace them periodically, but are not super sturdy for years of use. I very much like that the inner liner tray is a small area deep volume plug shape, just like you would hope for seed starting. I like that it's suspended above the bottom tray a little by the lip around the edge, so there's room for excess water to drain. And I most especially like the little moisture control dial on top that allows you to change how much of the air holes are exposed to change how much circulation vs moisture it has. However, the plastic is thin, like the thickness of a to-go container or a plastic disposable plate. I left a couple where they were getting magnified sun rays on them (by another clear concave surface around them or reflected light on them) and they quickly warped and shriveled. The ones I have kept in more normal conditions are doing fine, though. So for indoor use they should be perfect. If using outdoors, I need to remember to keep them away from windows (reflected light) and in an opaque bag or box (rather than a clear plastic tote) so they stay in the proper form. Overall I'm happy with my purchase and will likely buy these again if I need to, but will try to keep them in good shape so I can reuse next year.

This was my first purchase with this company and this type of product. My wife and I are just starting to get into indoor gardening, and we are excited to get our seeds going and plants ready for the growing season. In general, the product seemed to be well made and there were a lot more of them that came in the package than I was expecting. When I saw the picture in the ad on Amazon, I only thought that it was the one tray. But it actually came with ten of the trays. It was way more than I needed but it should last us a long time! Additionally, the quality seems to be pretty good so I imagine that you can reuse them once you have moved them into their real pots. The system seems to be pretty straightforward as far as how to use it. I don’t think that we will have a problem figuring that aspect of the process out, it even came with basic instructions and I think there is also a video on their webpage on how to use them. We are going to be planting our first seeds in the coming day or two so we will see how they work out. We are going to be planting basil, tomatoes, and cilantro. I like the ability to be able to modulate the amount of humidity that stays within the trays by using the circular disks on the top of the clear plastic lids. These dials just pop into place on the lids and each tray has its own top with disk so different types of plants can be regulated differently if you want to. Additionally, the labels are nice to have to be able to keep track of exactly what you planted and where. There are enough included in the package to use a few different times and still have some leftovers. I will provide a follow up review in the coming weeks or months once we have used the product for some time to let you know how they ended up working out for us!

Not intended for outdoor use. Planted my seeds and put them all on the front porch. Exposure to normal sunny conditions MELTED the seed trays. Will not stand up to natural heat. Indoor use ONLY! Will NOT buy again. On the plus side, they included everything they were supposed to, were in NEW condition with no damage, drain pretty well, retain moisture and have a greenhouse effect, and are ideal for indoor greenhouse germination. They are just not sturdy enough to be used out of doors.

I purchased the 10-pack of MIXC seed starter trays with 120 cells and humidity domes for indoor seed starting for flowers, vegetables, and herbs. They assemble easily, are strong and durable, and should last for many seasons. Small and easy to transport they can easily be moved to access the best light requirements for seedlings since plants should be rotated towards their light source every several days to insure strong and straight growth. The humidity dome provides sufficient height for most seedlings and can be adjusted to create optimal moisture and airflow conditions needed for germination, providing ideal growing conditions much like a small greenhouse. The deep tray compartments hold an adequate amount of soil for starting even larger seeds and allowing for good root formation, which is easy to check through the clear plastic trays. The plant labels are convenient although I do wish they were larger and that there were more of them. I have had success using these seed starters under grow lights and on sunny windowsills, and by using seedling heat mats which greatly speed germination. I’ve also used a heating pad covered with foil to avoid getting it wet which also worked. Bottom watering is fine for large seeds but watering fine seeds with a mister keeps them in place in the soil and avoids overwatering which can cause root-rot depriving plants of oxygen resulting in the death of the plant. A moisture meter iis a great way to tell when plants need watering. I use soil especially made for seed starting since it is not as course and works better in seed starting trays. Removing the seedlings was easy using a toothpick run around the edges of the plant, then pushing up the bottom of the tray before gently pulling them out by the base of the plant to keep from damaging the delicate roots. The trays were easy to clean by soaking in hot water with a small amount of bleach which will sterilize them before using again. These seed trays are a fun and easy way to start seedlings and also introduce children to gardening. My grandchildren enjoy tracking the plants daily growth, making them a great value and worthwhile investment at only $16.99. They were well packaged, arrived in good condition and on time. Highly recommended.

Really liked these, especially for the price! Pretty well made. All the dials on the tops snapped in perfect. Not sure if they will last more than one season but we will see. Very happy with this purchase. Going to get more I’m sure.

Mini serre de semis très pratique avec leurs alveoles. Le systeme couvercle avec aerateur est plutôt bien pensé. Attention par contre sur tapis chauffant çà germe vite et il faut surveiller regulièrement l'humidité. J'en racheterai sûrement parce que plus pratique pour moi que de gérer de plus grands plateaux quand plusieurs variétés en petit nombre.
